Both batteries been on garage floor over night.
Large one came off motorhome and small one I used to keep power on as I swapped in the new one.
Have I got it on a wrong setting's?

Should be around 12.7v max if not been on charge overnight.
14.4v+ is voltage immediately after charging

Try changing the battery in the meter, an almost flat meter battery will give odd results.

Ok thanks all for your input will try a new battery 🔋 as I think it's been in at least 9 years.

Laurie.

Yea, the battery symbol on the screen means it needs replacing.

also get the batteries off the concrete floor and onto at least a piece of timber or something to keep them clear of the concrete. the cold soak from the floor will quickly drag them down and spoil the battery.

That's a myth and goes back to when batteries were made of wood

Never heard of "cold soak" surely the ground is at ambient temp same as the air just above it, in fact the ground is warmer, water pipes never freeze and ground source heat pumps collect the heat from the ground 🤔

concrete does hold the cold and heat longer than the air around it but i concede i may be talking "B..X"! :xblush: sorry......

if they have just come off charge thats normal leave them an hour and retest

No chap's you were right just needed a new battery 🔋 in the metre reader now says 12.5 after being off charge for 48 hours.
So was right to change the van battery that had been on for 8 years from New.

Water pipes only don’t freeze because they are buried more than 450mm below ground level

dont think 450 is deep enough in a bad winter I believe that it was 750mm deep when we built our house some 30 years ago.:xwink:

I’m a Building Control Surveyor and I can assure you that 450mm is the cut off for ground freeze. The 750 deep foundation you are referring was the standard depth used for foundations due to load spread. These days it is a minimum of one metre (unless on sandstone) but can be a lot more if within close proximity to trees and hedges etc.

i am sure you are correct but the 750mm i was referring to for water pipe depths as here, but i am no Building surveyor.

but its off topic so i guess my comment was not relevant :xThumb:

obviously warmer up there :xwink::xwink:

iv’e seen a hole village loose water for 3 month , cut off by frozen pipes

no idea how deep they were

think about 1980 , serviced by water bowsers , They just had to wait for the thaw

1980 was a bad winter in the UK, my wife keeps reminding me that she was left with the kids to drive to south Wales in the bad weather .... I was enjoying myself :xdoh: in Norway for 3 months winter warfare training:xblink:
