For the first time, rather than get up at silly o'clock, I've decided to 'plot up' near Dover Ferryport (for an 08.00 ferry). I've followed the posts on here about parking on the Esplanade/Marine Parade. My question is, is there plenty of room? Or is it banged-out at this time of year? I will be travelling a week into August..... ETA there would be about 22.30

Any tips (over and above what I've read) regarding the parking would be useful too.

Taa.

Its less trouble to take a late ferry say 2000 hrs and overnight in Calais or Dunkirk. You can have a lie in next morning and still get a decent start. BUSBY.

Thanks guys. Am committed to that 0800 ferry unfortunately, which means getting to ferry port at 0700 for the check in. What with the +- 2 hour drive from home, thought it better to change my normal plans and park up the night before. Wanted to make sure therefore that Marine Pde wasn't too full. May consider later ferry and kip on French side next time?? Thanks for help.

The Canterbury Aire is not all that far away and only £3 - plus the pub at the entrance does lovely meals too!

We stayed at Canterbury a fews ago, great parking and the food in the pub was excellent and only about 20 mins to Dover. :)

Ahh - well we looked at it, because we will be doing just that very soon ! The entrance road to access that P& R actually shuts at 8.30pm. You can leave at any time, as I understand you pay just when you are leaving and the 'paid' ticket operated the out barrier.

The website for the P&R even tells you what coins the machines take - they don't take notes or cards.

Someone also said there is a pub with good food very near the parking, sounds good to me to start me holiday with a meal out !

Thanks again guys ( and girls). Must admit, I'd never considered the Park & Ride 'Aire' at Canterbury.
As Sedge says, the entrance closes from 8pm, so that might be a bit early for us?? Wasn't planning to plot up at Dover until about 22.30.

It's got me thinking though.

There is usually plenty of space to park overnight on Dover seafront whatever time of year and parking is free overnight. It can get busy during the day at the weekends if the weather is good.
