Age & lack of mobility are sadly bringing an end to our 40 years of motor Caravanning. We have a 2005 Autotrail Cheyenne 630 SE on a sprinter base. It has all the bells & whistles and has done about 45,000 miles. Because we live near the sea in Weymouth a bit of corrosion has developed in and around the cab doors.
The question is do we spend quite a bit of money having the paintwork sorted out and the fibre glass touched up or sell it at a reduced price to someone who has the skills to bring it back to good condition? She has just been MOT‘d last week so mechanically good to go.
My guess is that if she was cosmetically perfect she would be worth around £24K but I think we would let her go for around £17.5k to the right person.
Any advice would be welcome.
Paul

The choice of loosing 6.5k and accepting 17.5k or spending 6.5k to get 24k for a perfect 2005 motorhome...🤔

Good luck

I would not soend another penny on it
My opinion is that if there is rust that you can see, there is loads more that you cannot

Good luck with it

A trader has one for sale on eBay just now for £18.500
it’s a 2004 on a fiat

Test the market, put it on with a price allowing you to drop a bit if you want and you can always take it off sale if you decide there’s not enough interest!

Hi it would not cost 6 grand to do the door rust if that it maybe 800 ish so if your going to lose that much get it done
That if it sells for 24!as you say

First loss is always the best loss, if you have definitely decided to sell, get it gone. (y)

Market it now. Be honest about it’s s condition and fix your price so that you knock a bit off if you get a genuinely interested buyer, everybody likes a bargain.

Don’t throw money at something you are intending to get rid of. An unnecessary complication for you.

Good luck.

Once you've decided to sell, sell it as chaser said. I was given a fair price. In my opinion by a dealer, took most of the stuff that I would have let go to a private buyer and now in the process of selling the stuff to make up the money I would have got had I sold it privately. I'm amazed how much stuff is accumulated and it's making a tidy sum ,plus helping others getting some nice items at a decent price .
I'd sell while the market is a seller's market, it won't be when the summer ends

Make absolutely 100 % sure that you have cleared non retrievable funds before you release the van.
There are many scammers , thieves and vagabonds out there.
Maybe I'm a bit scare mongering, but far better safe than sorry.

Sell it as is. Sprinters are renowned for being reliable mechanically but rot boxes bodily.
I had a Sprinter for 11 years as a works van, never let me down and not much spent on running repairs, the body however was full of rust spots, even had bottom half re painted once, just for appearances sake.
Anyone in the market for buying one will have done their home work and know they are rot boxes. Repairing it yourself looks like you're trying to hide something in my view and they'll know it's been patched up anyway.

Why not take to a body repair shop, get a written quote to repair and respray where needed. Put it up for sale as is, then if anyone queries the repair costs you can show them the estimate. A lot of people would probably take it as it is thinking they can do the repairs themselves or know some one who can do it cheaper. I would pay for the estimate so as to be fair to whoever you get to do the estimate.

Spot on I’d say.

Personally I would prefer to see what needs doing.

As a buyer I would be able to see a repair and wonder how good it is 😉😊
