Which would you choose and why

Would you have a decent alarm fitted to tell others someone is breaking in if a activated.

Or

Would you have the house door type extra security locks fitted that some have to stop thieves getting in to start with

I know having both is the best option but which one would you choose if you could only have 1 of them

Reasonably simple.

An alarm limits the time thief has to work. They can always steal something.

Visible security says to the thief "a lot of work and noise, find an easier one". That said, plastic windows are never much in the way of security but a great inconvenience climbing in and out of a window.,

Alarm, although not many respond to an alarm going off if your van has an alarm set the toe rags are more likely to go to the van next door without one.
Also we always set the alarm at night when we are in the vehicle, at least then if someone does try we won't sleep through it.

Security locks often means they do a lot more damage if they do decide to break into your van.

i would say and have fitted, a loud!! alarm the louder the better, it will turn heads at least, that also has clear and visible LED's and stickers to warn off would be thieves to go somewhere else.

i am not a fan of the aftermarket additional door security more locks more damage..

fit a proper immobiliser that prevents the van being stolen first. even a simple switch to shut off the fuel pump works. then a decent alarm to wake the dead

added locks can advertise something worth breaking in for and the weakest point is fragile plastic windows

As long as the alarm has ear drum bursting sound that will disorientate & make sick anyone attempting to enter I'd go for that first.

Alarms going off all the time, who takes any notice however loud. Visible deterrent eg door lock false alarm (just a flashing light) may make them think twice although unlikely, afraid it’s pure luck, where you are and where the opportunist is, remember to take passport and wallet with you every time you leave the van and enjoy

A very loud internal sounder combined with an immobiliser.

The type that will make your ears bleed.

Any lock can be over come.

The blue LEDs in the Growler are so bright. I guess the logic is when do you drive past a police car, ambulance or fire engines when the blue lights are flashing and not look!

To me, the logic is that they are bright enough to be easily seen in bright sunshine, but at night I switch them to the dimmer setting so as not to attract unwanted attention or upset people.

Leave them on the brightest setting at night, you could attract people from quite some distance around to come and investigate what's going on, as well as advertising your presence. On the lower setting, they are still plenty bright enough to warn off anyone who is outside your van with unwanted intentions, without annoying people.
