Turkey finally digested, new year hangover a distant memory. So what was your aire of the year last year?

Ours was probably Palencia, Spain. Not pretty, no shade when it’s hot BUT really handy for the town which was delightful, free ehu, water and dump of grey and black waste, in fact totally free excep 1€ for a hot shower if you want it and which lasted ages.

It’s a fairly new aire and has a very nice, modern, spotlessly clean building with separate m/f loo and shower. All laid with gravel and totally level. Washing machines also available for small fee as well.

Mir belongs to the chap who owns the garage opposite and all he asks is that you top up with fuel if poss. We did and it was no more expensive than anywhere else.

we initially went as a stopover on the way home but stayed two nights in the end as town was so nice. Nice surprise find ?

Oops. I forgot the cobbled square in Sintra, Portugal. So pretty and a fab Indian restaurant on the square. It was so good we stayed two nights so we could eat there two days running (well we live in France so a good curry is hard to find and an excellent one almost impossible ?)

When we found the Indian and thought we could probably get away with staying in the square we had already parked & paid at the sports club.

A stellplatz in Emmendingen. Ended up there 3 times last year. Nothing special as it is just a car park with paying for water but it the parking was free but very good to tour from on the motorbike and leaving van in very safe area

Bit of a newbie here but venturing abroad for the first time last year our very first aire (free) experience was at Grobbendonk, very good aire but on the same trip our favourite aire was at Dinkelsbühl great supermarket opposite and near the entrance to the town, we will be back later this year??

I asked Mr S what his favourite for 2019 would be and being a bit of a romantic he went for Saujon in France which is right on the river, so a lovely outlook.

but he did agree that Palencia was a very nice surprise find

Gruissan marina.
It's nowt but a dusty car park and expensive, for an aire, at €9 but, the walks round the marina and into the old village are lovely. The cycling is superb. Cycle paths everywhere and flat for easy riding along the coast or into Narbonne, lots of hills if you ride up into Le Clappe.
The weather is usually sunny and warm.
Best of all, we frequently meet friends, mostly Funsters, and have a lovely sociable time.
Cant wait to go back in about 6-7 weeks time.

Richard.

Not an Aire as such but King William in tintagel. Very central, great walk to the castle and only £4.00 a night . Glastonbury, free overnight or £5.90 for the full day ( then free after 6.00)

We tried quite a few in the Brit Stops (not trying to nick the thread and I don't want to get into the 'I pay for a meal if the landlord allows me to park' things). Pub in Port Isaac, really friendly.
There was one pub, can't remember the name but they'd just taken over and not only did they have a nice area to stay (up to 3 moho), filling available AND because we were unable to empty the grey water, the landlord allowed us to use the end chalet to shower and use the bathroom (key given for sole use) for no charge. Great crowd in the pub too and lovely village.

Thanks EX51SSS nice to hear about some UK ones. We used to live near Glastonbury but never stopped there in the MH

2 spring to mind.

One in England one in Austria.
One free, as long as you pop in for a pint, In Oxford, 30 second walk to the bus stop, 15 min ride in to the heart of the beautiful city of Oxford.

The other about 20e but worth every penny.... In Vienna, Location is 15 min ride in to the center of the gorgeous Vienna, great facilities,

Thanks haganap they both sound really interesting. Vienna has been on my wish list for a while ?

Do You want a list

If I had to pick there's 2

Saint Georges De Didonne - costs 10€ a night blue free for blue badges park on the beach road
2019-08-11 Saint Georges De Diddonne (5).jpg

Gouville Sur Mer - 8€ has Electric, Water & Waste drops, - behind the beach but protected by Dunes 4 bars and a pizzaria at it's entrance busy with boats in the day but very quiet at night

Do You want a list
Well you’re really only supposed to choose one ?. But as I chose one and then couldn’t resist a second and then Mr S really wanted to choose 3 (Saujon, Palencia and Castelnaudary, last one for the location near the town rather than the aire itself), I guess it doesn’t really matter. Just enjoying some lovely memories ?

How good is that Palencia Aire. Thanks for the heads up!
We even washed our van for the first time since summer 2018!

Favourite Aire for 2019 was probably Cobreces 56636 Camper contact between Gijon and Santander.
After a long trip it was a lovely quiet place with peaceful cliff top walks and a few bars!

Can you provide a little more detail on the Aire and also the Indian?

Im struggling to identify them.

Thanks

Ian

Our favourite last year was Meuzac in France. It’s one of the aires marked with an asterisk in All the Aires book! It’s free and right by the side of a beautiful lake. There is a plop drop and water also free and a bakery just around the corner. Perfect. It’s out the way so quite often nobody there and you can get the best spot!

Thanks Lenny HB. There’s not an Aire there then? I’d read @SmithsInFrance‘s post as there being an Aire there.

Ian
The sports center is the official one CC 23597, the other one in CC you wouldn't want to take anything bigger than a VW into.
The parking area next to the Indian is bigger than it looks.

Ahh, it’s a bit out of Sintra then?

Is that the Area Municipal or the other one?
