Apology if this has been done to death before but what are member actual experiences of different makes of van tyres that emit the lowest road noise?

My Yokohama All Weather tyres are quieter than the Continentals previously fitted.

However, if you look at the specs for any tire online you will see a decibel figure for each.

look at the tyres you are considering.

That is, search the online suppliers for the brands, season type and sizes available for your motorhome. There will be an energy label with tyre noise marked in "db".

Then go to the biggest tyre review site and input your shortlist from the aforementioned search.

attached is an example of my car tyres.

The noise figure quoted for tyres is not what the average user wants to know. It is a measure of noise pollution, taken 7.5m from the centre of the vehicle traveling at 80kmh.

This often bears no resemblance to noise in the cab transmitted by the suspension & at different speeds. The same tyre will perform differently on different vehicles.

Anyone fitting new tyres will always say they are much quieter than the tyres they replaced, the old tyres will have hardened with age and will have far less tread on them so they will be noisier.

I can say the noise from my Toyo Observe Van tyres is more than acceptable in my van.

If only I could get all the stuff stored in our van so that all I could hear is tyre noise I'd be very grateful..

I thought tyres should be ok at 5 years old, depending on wear & condition of course.
What age do they need/should to be changed if in good condition, I.E no sidewall cracking, and decent tread depth left? I thought it was 7/8 years?

here you go Mickey1 .....This is what Google had to say, I thought it was 7 years plus so you could be OK for a couple more years yet if your tyres are checked over.

There is no definitive tyre age limit as to when you should replace your tyres but once your tyres reach 7-10 years old, you should keep a close eye on their condition and consider replacing them. Tyre ageing is commonly identified by small cracks, known as crazing, which appear in the tyre sidewall.

Thanks Les, I’m still in Thailand until the end of March, so I’ll have them checked over when I’m back, MOT April so they should tell me if ok or not.

Love Malaysia & Thailand, many great memories, great places, plus some real eye openers in Pattaya especially!;)
Have fun, hopefully in the sun.

When I got new front tyres for ours due to tread wear they were all a year old already when looking around, so I never paid much attention to that 5 years and change lark. Just look at the condition of them, but each to their own.

Depends on use, if the van is left sitting around unused for 2 or 3 months at a time best to change them at 5 years. If used regularly with a decent mileage put on them they will last a lot longer as use keeps the compound supple. Standing around particularly with a load on them the compound will harden and be more liable to cracking.
A lot of people make the mistake of checking them saying they are fine and have only checked the outside wall.

I changed mine when they were down to 4mm at 3½ years.
