I don’t care about our food and what we can take but our dog has a delicate stomach, so I’m wondering what to do. Previously we would take enough of her dried food to last but obviously this shouldn’t happen now.

What are you dog owners, who go to Europe planning to do?

That's interesting where have you noted that "dried" dog food is banned please.

I understand why wet food is covered by the ban but for some reason did not relate it to dry food.

Is dog food not allowed into the EU?

What food is s/he on now, is it not available in the EU.
Try and find a brand available in the UK &EU that doesn't upset the tum and transition slowly onto it - even if it is more expensive.

I think we are probably just going to take the risk and take what we need for our dog. I've seen Harringtons on sale in mainland Europe, which you can get in the UK, but that is at the budget end and we avoid those.

What I don't know, because I didn't think I had to pay attention about it at the time, was what higher quality dog foods are available and if they are are, where to buy them. I suspect not in supermarkets but I've already confessed to not looking in pre Brexit/Covid times so may be wrong.

Ours has ‘fish4dogs’ only thing that doesn’t result in sloppy choppies 🤢. I’ve seen on their packaging they also have an address in Holland so as we always prebook first stop in Europe I may enquire about ordering from Holland and get it delivered to the campsite !!! Unknown at present if this will be possible ??

You might be able to order dog food on amazon for delivery to your holiday destination.

2kg prescription dog food is allowed and that’s it.

We found supermarkets across Europe poor for dog food apart from Lidl which have the same food in both Portugal and Spain so useful for continuity when touring. They have grain free biscuits and grain free tins with high meat content which Beech seems happy on. If you need something specialist then you need to go to a big pet store, the kind you get on out of town trading estates.

I’ve just remembered that, in France, in Brittany anyway, the pet food section in Mr Bricolage seemed good, and also at Gamm Vert, the farm/gardening supplies. Maybe have a look online to see if they have any suitable?

We have the same problem and have been told (not tested this yet) that if we have a certificate from our vet then we can take her prescription food. Mind you, we've also got to work out all the other sodding paperwork now involved in taking her with us to the EU, but with high covid in the EU I don't think we'll be over there before the end of the summer earliest so will start working on that in April to allow enough time.

Our dog has a prescription diet so we may be able to get the food from a vet, probably more expensive but we will check options before we go

We live in France with two dogs. Dont go to supermarkets for the food go to maxizoo they have a massive range of food including for all the dietry needs of sensitive woofers, the staff are hugely helpful when it comes to choosing the right products url here https://www.maxizoo.fr/c/chien/nourriture-pour-chien/nourriture-seche/ there is another http://www.animal-factory.com/ they sell really high end food for speciality breeds these places are far better than the likes of pets at home in uk hope this helps

Thank you for this I have checked and they have the Hills ZD our dog needs, there's a branch in Calais so I can do click and collect, it's cheaper than here as well. Win win 👍

In Portugal you can buy specialist dog food including Purina which does wheat free products, from Pingo supermarkets, also all Vets sell special dietary dog foods, including "free from" foods without additives etc, I'm sure they do also in Spain, you can just walk in and buy the food. Failing that, plain boiled chicken often does the trick?

Why don’t you ask Charlie,he’ll know. Come to think of it,why hasn’t he done his own post?? I’m starting to doubt his commitment to the cause!:LOL:

Dalmatian’ s have a unique digestive system being unable to process purines, as well as allergies to everything under the sun.
Ours has Turkey but cannot tolerate chicken. We have also found that adding Kefir to his diet improves the output and reduces fumes. Important in the confined spaces of a van. I am assuming that those Turkey products and Kefir will be available in The EU. Hoping that the excitement of searching for ham sandwiches will have diminished by the time we ever set sail again.

Any ideas about raw food feeders and access to that. I have one that can only eat rabbit and one that can't eat wheat, corn or chicken

We buy Acana food for our dog here in Spain through the internet. Delivered for free, and a lot of the sites also have branches in France.

It's my pleasure, when we moved our choc lab was really tied with wainrights and only owners appreciate the consistent food and outcome is important :) If your here for a while then try and bring some original food and mix and switch over a few days. As we move back to uk June timeframe we will face the opposite :)

Ours are fed raw, which is in frozen blocks. So should be free from any invading unwanted bugs !

We have a "special locker" that we used for drug runs but now will have 45kg of dog food stashed in it when we next get over the pond, that should last the 90 days. 🤭

Pah, we were carrying 72Kg of tinned food and 72Kg of dried food (total 144Kg) for our 90 day trip with our two boxers. 😉😎

Boxers, like dalmations, have notoriously sensitive digestive systems.
