Having a rare wander through shops with better half today. Going past a shop noticed their window display was Halloween based...Fair enough .gave it no more thought, but then looked in through door of shop. There in all its glory was a full Christmas display.huge lit up tree,Christmas decorations ,tree lights , the lot ....talk about covering all bases ,but just didn't look right....commercialism went mad.

I detest the way shops and advertisers on TV just hop straight onto the next cash cow opportunity.

It devalues the meaning of the events.

Won't be long now till the Ester sds are out and Mother's Day cards are on sale

Think it was more the fact that the same shop had both Halloween And Christmas full displays out at the same time which got me.Am surprised they didn't just set up an Easter display as well to save them the time next year.

The way the high street shops are going to the wall must be pushing them to the limits to entice folks in. It's all very sad. Councils push up business rates and find a way to charge for every parking opportunity and wonder why the footfall decreases and why the shops struggle. Desperate measures for desperate times.

Real men don't go Christmas shopping until 24th Dec, I find it quieter and easier on the 25th.

:) Once, years ago, I left all my shopping until 24th December, when I ventured into Birmingham city centre. Ohh my God - never, ever again will I leave it that late - the crowds, the feeling of desperation of what the hell to get, Mrs F (or Miss B as she was then) was lucky she didn't get a bag of charcoal and a spare indicator bulb from the local petrol station .

Now, in these internet-equipped days, real men don't go anywhere near shopping centres - instead they buy it all online! :D God I hate shopping!

I used to do the audit of a sweets & chocolate manufacturer, frozen foods distributor and ice-cream maker. Whenever we were there it felt as if we were in a completely different season as Easter Eggs were always in full production in the months up to Xmas.

Every Friday someone's job was to come around and take staff orders for sweets and there were always bags of mixed waste for next to nothing. Getting an ice-cream at the ice cream factory was like pulling teeth however!

The iced lollies were made in a machine called a carousel and the syrup went in at the start of the circle and the lollies were frozen and slipped into their sleeve just before one rotation was completed - hundreds at a time!

I have grown to prefer Christmas over here. Like New Year's, it's a one day holiday. Christmas is getting a little more commercial, but it's still pretty much church based for all those good (and bad) folks that partake. New Year's Eve is the big, fully inclusive bash.
