I have been improving the lighting in our Globecar... I have added 2 separate LED Light Strips together with dimmer switches. I wired them into the 12V system using the existing WAGO connectors and 12V cabling. They seem to work fine, on/off and dimming.

So, the odd thing is that even if the switches are turned off, whenever I switch on the 12V system for the van the LED strips flash - but just momentarily. After that, everything works okay.

So what have I done wrong ? Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

Nothing.... It seems to be an unexplained anomaly.
Some even glow very dimly when off.

Because of the extremely low power needed the Flashing could be an induced current from a parallel or very close by circuit but that's only a guess.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Probably just a power up glitch in the dimmer circuit. A simple solution, a normal switch in line with the dimmer.

Thanks Brian @hilldweller
Odd thing is that 2 separate dimmer switches do the same thing - different suppliers but they could be made in the same factory. Is the fault likely to be in the design ? Do you think there are any safety issues using the switches ?

Great pun on the thread title @CamperSue !

Don’t worry Sue I fitted expensive Led lighting in the cab, dinette, and in the bedroom of our Campscout. If I turn the panel to off the next time I switch it on all the three lights come on and I have to turn them off manually.

John.

Highly unlikely. What might be a minor issue is just how much current they take on standby. Probably very little but worth measuring.

Can you post a link so we can all get a bit more data.

Thanks John... it's just a bit too disco. No secret return to the campervan in the dark !

I did post links to the led strip and the separate dimmer in my original posting. Can you not see the links ?

I wondered what the big gap was, got them now. No standby current showed. No reason to worry about them either.

I have had those strips fail a bit to quickly, just a few LEDs failing. A bit annoying but at the price, just replace as needed. Latest ones not long fitted are doing a grand job.
