What oil for engine top up? (1 Viewer)

I need to top up engine oil in our Citroen Relay 2007 PVC, but have no idea what grade of oil is in there.
What oil should I use please?

Is it as simple as getting the recommended grade from the handbook, and adding some of that?

My concern is about potentially mixing two different grades of oil, as I have no idea what is in there currently.

On the real world it matters not a jot. Engine oils are blended anyway.
If it meets a top up before it's next full oil change then just use the vehicle handbook recommended grade.

To be honest the most important thing is NOT to overfill it.
The "max' line is exactly that, it is NOT your target level, it is the absolute maximum.
Aim to fill only to a little below that level.
Overfilling can cause massive damage to engines.

X250 use semi-synthetic only the latest X290 Euro 6 engines use fully synthetic oil.

Are you sure of that? I was told you should stick to one oil type, i.e mineral, synthetic or semi-synthetic.

If they are the same spec then it makes no real difference. The only real difference is that the old mineral oiks broke down faster under compression and drifted out of original specification much faster than the more recent semi and now fully synthetics.
The mineral oils also couldn't provide sufficient lubrication protection at the thinner and now very very thin viscosities that the latest modern engines can tolerate.
But topping up with a litre of say some semi synthetic on top of 5 litres of mineral, so long as of the same sae weights is not a problem at all.
