Background;
Recent breakdown with a Fiat Ducato 2.3 130 MultiJet.
Plastic fuel filter housing seal failed.
New plastic housing and filter fitted by a Fiat dealer.

So, what do I do now, please?

  1. When should the filter be replaced?
  2. Do I get it done at a Fiat dealer (although one person reported that the seal had gone again, even when done by a dealer)?
  3. Do I insist on a metal housing next time?
Thank you for any advice. I'm trying to mitigate any future problems! :)

I would not worry for another 30,000 miles unless using diesel from a questionable source ie dregs from the bottom of a storage tank.

I don't think the metal one is suitable for your model. I wouldn't worry too much as said they don't need changing for 30,000 & when you do get it changed you could ask for the complete housing to be changed.

Unless you have an engine problem, or fill up with crappy fuel you’ll not have to go near your fuel filter for many years.

And when you do, or your garage does, change the complete fuel filter assembly (already has filter fitted) as then you know it won’t cause you future problems, and if bought in advance then can be acquired for a reasonable cost.

I watched a “how to” vid on YouTube the other day and he did a step by step change. Very informative but you do need a bench vice and a two piece kit and a torque wrench, then I looked under the bonnet and I have the new aluminium one!
Doh! :doh:
