Getting there!
Any ideas anyone? It's underneath a step & sort of clicks together but must be something missing?

A conversation piece……?;)

(I’m with Landy Andy on this one - bin-bag holder…)

Its definitely a 'bin' - you're meant to hang carrier bags by their handles at either side (or bin bags with handles) - a relic from the olden times when carriers were given out freely by shops! I'm pretty certain that I've got a couple kicking around here in my store of 'things that might come in handy one day'!

I'm wondering if rather than for rubbish they may have used it for laundry.

Absolutely - We had one in our kitchen circa 1982-7, the shopping bag was suspended by it's handles around the four indents - the front two are visible in the photo, and the flap thing at the top 'closed' the bag to keep out flies. It can still be used!

At the time, it was marketed as 'environmentally friendly' and it was... in the sense that it enabled a second use for a single use plastic, but we've become a lot more aware now and should be avoiding the original product to begin with! Ours went to the bin when my M&D ripped out their 70s kitchen.

The laundry idea is a good one - a regular, old fashioned carrier bag can be used again and again before it stinks to high heaven and then you can recycle it.

I'd not recommend it for organic - the bags are too small and may leak - and you would need a supply of the increasingly endangered shopping carriers to fit it.

The thing is it's upside down for a bin or that type of thing?

Sorry, just read this - I think you might be right!
I'll have a look tomorrow 🙂

It's on it's side not upside down but as the bag will flop down when the step flap is closed it would still work okay.

Is your van from that era as well? Doesn't seem so from your profile pic but then old things creep into newer places!!!
Actually we have just changed to a newer van - Brian 2!

As if I can talk!!! I breathe the 70s onto as many things that can take the 70s and I'm not talking flared trousers!!!
I have one of these and I want to digitalise it to make my kids sweat!
