We have a climbing plant - it’s slow growing & mixes in with ivy over an arch, this year it’s grown “fruit“ which are green rock hard the size of smallish apples - but we’ve no idea what the plant is (we are ignorant city people).
the branches have sharp thorns.
Anyone know what it is ?

I'm with Janine on this.
They turn yellow when ripe.

Yes definitely a variety of quince.
Lovely pink flowers in spring.
If you are going to make jam from the fruit grate it before boiling - according to one who knows - no me.

Quince ? I thought it was a poisonous growth which i nearly cut dow, - I’ll give it a reprieve & see how the fruit mature.
thank you gardeners for sharing your countryside knowledge 🤓

You will find they are just as hard when they fall off the tree.

Quince jelly is a nice accompaniment for cold meat.

Looks like one we had at home when I was a lad........Mum called it Japonica Apple.
