Well the mh is now in our yard and we are cleaning it and getting to know it inside out.
On the roof there was what looked like a plastic Christmas pudding bowl painted white with air holes drilled around the edges. It was cracked and broken so we have removed it and underneath is what looks like a flue. Can anyone identify what is visible below the hole please? We can't get to it from the inside.

The truma fire is at the other side of the van with it's own flue.
Underneath it is a kitchen cupboard with a round hole in the bottom panel. There is no cover over the hole.

Do you have an extractor fan over the cooker? If so, could it be the outlet for that?

Thanks for that Buckby. Will google it and see what kind of vent or cover it needs.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. Have messaged the guy we bought the van from, waiting to hear back from him. He went to live in Spain a few days after we picked the van up. Have put a temporary cover over it for now but need a permanent solution.

Former owner says its the kitchen steam vent.
Grateful if any one can confirm if this is correct. Would steam vent have a heatsink?
Is it safe for steam to be passing near wires?
Apparently cover on roof was an old tv point?!

There two cables on the right look pretty big - they would be supplying rather than controlling whatever was there. Looking at those cables I would guess something like a heating element or something similar. Why it would have been there I don't know.

It appears to be mains-powered. If that is the case you need to isolate it by disconnecting any power supply to it as it is already a fire risk. It must be possible to access it from inside - it was installed & wired at some point? Once it is disconnected from the mains I would cap the roof rather than fit a cowl.

No extractor fan visible but it may have had one in the past.
Thanks NickNic and Tony for your help and advice. Will have a closer look this weekend as can't get to it from inside without taking cupboards apart.
