Idealy the Blue drinking water safe Hygienic/Foodsafe type (forget what the exact term for it is) and yes "Get the Standard length"???? Dealers what are they like eh?
Some people carry different lengths with them I.E a short one, & medium one, then a straight connector to join them together to make a long one:D
Ours is 10 mtrs long and if thats not long enough then I am too far away from the tap.

I dont bother with a hose, use a couple of watering cans, saves water all over the garage as you can never get rid of the last bit.
editted to add whatever you do do not use the hose attached to any water point, you have no idea where it has been and alcohol wipes are not effective for E.Coli

If you shower and do the dishes in the van, of imagine that a watering can would get tiring pretty quickly.

We use a 5m length of food safe standard hose. It's rare we can't get the van close enough. We keep it in a circular zip bag. With a short length, it self coils. You've just got to rotate it a few times and the vast majority of water empties out.

Watering can x 2 fit all known taps. There are some taps that you just cannot reach with a hose.

I would add I was the biggest critic of anyone who said they used a can instead of hose, after getting one, had to take it all back.

We were on a site in Spain where ' normal ' size motorhomes had to do quite a bit of manouvering to get pitched.

After a couple of days we noticed a Concorde that every morning seemed be moving about the site to and fro the grey drive over dump and water tap so on the third morning ( I know I'm sad!!!o_O) I timed him and it took him 20 minutes to get off his pitch and to the services, 3 minutes to empty his grey and top up his water and then 25 minutes to get back on his pitch.:whew:

I asked if he wanted to borrow my watering can and grey bucket and he looked at me as if I was from another planet!:roflmto:

Get the longest you can and cut it up into short medium and long. I have a flat hose, lightweight and stores easy.

Get yourself some of these:

As you see you also get a tap on the connector useful if its just you filling up on your own.

This gives you the ability to join them together for when you are a long way from the tap. I also recommend a water can too invaluable!

As mentioned, we do use a hose wherever we can. But we do also carry a collapsible watering can and a grey water plastic Jerry can as backup. We are currently at a festival for a few days and the backup does get some use.

Question for you 'canners', do you tend to stay on sites for a few days, or do you move all the time?
Im a “canner”, we move frequently and so often pull up near a tap, however I find it quick and easy to use the collapsible can and it can be easily sterilised every so often and you are not dragging long hoses on the ground etc. It suits us but then, spend a very little time on this forum and you will discover that, thankfully, we are all different! :)

Before purchasing a new water fill-up hose it’s always best to check the distance from your home outside water tap to the drinking water inlet on your Motorhome and allow a couple of metres extra. If that’s a long distance include a few extra hose couplers and a hose joiner and leave some of it at home. Blue layflat hose is good but make sure it’s drinking water quality when purchasing as some are for garden watering.

This is turning quite interesting, normally on arrival we fill up 100 litres with a hose, this will normally last 3-5 days, we normally move by then or top up. If we move somewhere else we then refil, does everyone empty before driving? We also use a 10 litre for drinking water but make tea from the sink tap.

A 3m & a 7m hose allows filling the van from either side and coupler to join them, a 20 m roll flat hose taken off the cassette as easier to store only used once in 10 years, various tap connectors.

Sod that for a lark no way am I filling a 160 Lt tank with a watering can.:D

We usually stay 1-3 days, occasionally longer. The trick is to just maintain a working level in the tank, we work on 30-40 litres. Thats enough for a day or two if I can't be bothered to top up, even then it's just one can a day.

To stop getting the floor wet put a male fiting on one end and a female on other end coil hose and push male into female no leaks, can also use male fitting to the new fittings in France that are just a push in .

You must have a hell of a big watering can, how do you get that in your little van?

Why would I want to do 12 trips lugging 13 kg + weight of can when my water tank has wheels & an engine.?

We have to use a hose (or a submersible pump) due to the stupid Whale system on our MH and the hose with the special adaptor is 7.5m long. That's plenty long enough for every MH service point we've encountered, but often not quite long enough to reach the tap if you're on a pitch so we've added a 10m expandable hose to the collection. We keep the hoses, and a range of connectors, in a small Really Usefull Box which keeps everything nice and dry.

I'm looking forward to getting a MH with a normal fill system so I can use a watering can (y)

10meter and a 15meter flat hoses. Not on a real and with a joiner if needed.
I carry a Jerry can but have only needed it once.
There are far better things to do on holiday than walk to a tap then to my motorhome all day.
