My hobbies are mainly mental rather than physical.
I am a member of U3A (University of the Third Age - a rather pompous title for a group that promotes keeping the grey matter working in older age) and enjoy group meetings such as antiques, garden visits, music of the Sixties, guest speakers, etc.
I organise a walking group and also belong to an antique collectors club.
Gardening, especially growing vegetables, is my most active hobby. There’s never a day goes by without doing something in the garden - except when away in the van, of course.
House exchanging around the world, when we can.
Selling antiques and collectables online.
Cooking.
Creative writing.
Organising antique fairs and shows.
Scouring charity shops.

Motorcycles have been a constant interest and currently have 3+1/2 Moto Guzzis in the garage plus a ‘work’ Honda quad and a Can-Am Outlander MAX 1000 for fun and taking the grandkids on off-road outings. Shooting in varied disciplines (until the government has banned them) has always featured and I currently carry out deer and other control locally.

We’ve always enjoyed camping and cycling and have completed several of the longer U.K. routes. A few years ago we tackled La Velodyssee in two leisurely parts - we camp or table d’hote, cycle and stop for lunch drinks and whatever and wherever we feel like, rather than ‘nose to the wheel’. ;)

First year was Roscoff heading south and we made it as far as the Vendee before catching the train back up. Next year was Santander to the border via Bilbao and St Sebastian and up as far as Nantes before utilising SNCF to Roscoff. Looking reasonably seriously at the EuroVelo 6 Atlantic to Black Sea route as a bucket list entry.

I'm a newbie and always will be. You never know it all.
Waking the dog, ball room dancing, flying a motor glider ,wine tasting but still at work so limited at the moment!!
motor glider seems a bit of a contradiction in terms.
Warning!!
I know nuffing about gliders, motorised or free fall.;)

Since i met Barry it's been singing, folk sessions, clubs and festivals. Before that i was single for a long time and i was working hard but it was DIY, folk festivals, bit of sailing and gardening. Now its mainly baking and crochet which is lovely to do now i have a grandchild and another on the way.

Whenever I visit the UK I always admire allotments. I wish everyone had access to an allotment and could experience the benefits of tending them.
NigelNovice take a look at Broken Link Removed .
As for Northern Soul and Motown - the best music ever!

In case anyone missed it from a previous thread copied over to here:

Professional Pheasant Racing:

Let me introduce you to ‘Buster’, my 2hh racing pheasant (male 2yr old class) during one of his regular training runs in preparation for the annual Trill Gold Cup meeting.

Seriously though, without fail this guy would hear my quad approaching and run along the hedgerow to ‘chaperone’ me around the land while I was checking things over for about 45 minutes, before escorting me off of his patch as in the video.

This went on for four years until last November when I saw him for the last time hobbling with a damaged leg. The land was remote from the main farm and there were no shoots in the vicinity, so he had a good life. And I never fed him, just had a chat when we met up.

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
My latest restoration, not quite running perfect yet but it will be after the postal strike 🤬

I love watching those stationary engines at vintage vehicle shows. It makes me chuckle though that it's the engines that are moving whilst it's the owners who are stationary all day in deck chairs with their Thermos flasks and Tupperware boxes of cheese and pickle sandwiches.

Before the advent of widespread electricity these engines performed every task that might today be replaced with an electric motor.
Most commonly used on farms for anything from sheep sheering to milking cows but probably most commonly driving water pumps.
This example is water cooled but I have the same engine as an air cooled variant. Single cylinder 1.5 horse power petrol.
The air cooled demonstrated here driving two water pumps.

Such a beautiful machine deserves a lovely shed! Well done on both.

I started this hobby a year ago and that engine is my sixth rescue 😊
This common as muck Lister is from exactly the same six month period in time of second half 1950
A direct competitor and very different design delivering the same 1.5 horse power but at 50 rpm less

Flying, obviously... [and gyros do attract the... [cough] individualistic among us... That's why I chose them ! ]

Political Betting and Forecasting (I was, I think, the first to tip Trump in 2016, and made £50k when he became POTUS. I usually make a tax-free few grand on any election, US or UK, but the Donald was special...)

True Crime (I was credited, in 2018, by a crime author in his book, as having - on balance - solved what Raymond Chandler called "the impossible... unbeatable murder", in Liverpool in 1931. )

And the overriding. life-long hobby, I suppose. How to beat the system?
2/3rds the way there...
