5 years, feel free to ask me about the Carado!!
Changed the gearbox oil last week to fully synthetic and feels like I am driving a new van

Currently in Belgium and the thetford toilet flush is leaking badly, fixes.

1. put a wax earplug in the end of the tube overnight stopped the leak.
2. Put a glue block in the 90° 8mm plastic pipe bend in the cassette housing to stop the water permanently and will use the shower to flush.
3. Will fix when home ( a field repair not possible).

Fridge 12v operation. It turned out to be a loose spade connection to the relay. Cleaned the fridge flue as it was not cooling properly on gas. Just the omnistep to sort out as it's not retracting when the engine is started.

Very slightest of water coming in during terrential period of rain few weeks ago. I covered it with Blue Harris waterproof celophane protector (screwfix) in the interm (great stuff). Removed the outer grommets from camera to access fixing screws. Cut old silicone away with fine modelling knife between van and camera, was well bonded but wiring hole had become exposed.
Thought it would be bit of a nightmare but straight forward enough.

Update to 2, my glue gun packed up so I went to the only Brico open in Luxembourg on a sunday and concocted this end stop out of what they had!
Leak no more (y)

3 years on a STEEP learning curve
Coming past bristol on m5 southbound and the van developed a shake. Woke the missus so it must have been bad. Pulled into services and drove round in circles till we had it figured out. Passengers rear tyre had a massive egg shaped lump in the driving surface, which promptly blew out as I started to jack the van up. New pants please. Next up we had a bodge repair on the fresh water drain pipe that has lasted nearly four years. Quick trip to B&Q and three metres of 25mm pond hose later we now have a clean shiny new fresh water drain hose. I know the pond hose won't be food grade but as we don't drink from the tank I don't care. Also both steps and n/s/f jack point have all been welded. Going to feast of lanterns next weekend. See you there.

I was getting fed up with the creaking everytime I opened the overhead lockers and the noise they made when closing, so today I replaced all the hinges and now I have smooth silent opening and closing lockers and as you will see from the photo the locker that as already had the new ones fitted stay open higher giving better access to contents
The hinges are the original Auto Trail hunges from

Well it's not "fixing" but we have identified that underneath our bed (island bed with storage under) needs some lights

So purchased from Poundland 2 x 1.5m LED light strips that are 5v powered
ordered a 12v to 5v converter with 2 USB outlets

Add to that in stock a 240v Microswitch (So 12v is NO problem)
an in line fuse holder
some 24v 5amp wire

so a 12v feed fused (well it will be ) to microswitch which operates when bed lifted/closed - - the wiring is in place, the lights are in place, just waiting for the postman to deliver yet another parcel to complete the job.

Replaced the flooring in the cab area as the rubber matting had failed. Highbridge supplied the parts . Both seat assemblies and all ancillaries removed to fit it!! Absolute chore! Next time..will let them do it!

Fitted a new Air bag ECU after the dreaded red light air bag light came on again. The last time it was reset by Fiat Professional when we had our MOT in July with no fault found.
This time I thought I’d do it myself and buy a OBD11 scanner which resulted in ‘no connection’ a sure fire sign it’s had it.
Sent it off to Crash Data in Liverpool who confirmed internal corrosion, can’t be repaired.
£300 for a new one.
Not sure what the Fiat price would have been.

I actually used pond hose to repair our fresh inlet pipe. I told the bloke in the shop I would probably replace it with food grade later he said there was no point as all aquarium stuff is effectively to food grade anyway as fish are very sensitive to any chemicals.

I don't like not having decent reversing lights on our van when reversing at night, so I rectified this today with these 10 watt LED lights on each side.
They are not your usual cheap tat and are mounted on an aluminium base.

Tightened and tweaked hab door hinges, not rubbing on the frame as much now! (gunna need a rubber mallet)

Gave the manual step a good fettle and oiling, doesn't clunk quite as much....

Put some super diesel in. Engine still sounds like it's an old broken tractor.

Spent £300 on new tyres, plenty on the old ones - but they were dated 2002?

Expect daily updates from the new 'shed'
