We have just bought our 1st camper van, a bit of an impulse buy, and we know nothing about it.
How do we find out what model we have, all we know is that it is a 6 berth CI, 20 years old.
Our 1st 2 problems, are :
1 where is the waste tank?
2 where should the leisure battery be?
If anyone can help us we would be grateful, thanks

:welc:And welcome, you will get full site access here for the paltry sum of £10 per year, which I have well recovered each year.

Hello and Welcome.
I think if you move all seat cushions out, lift up seat covers, then you'll be able to locate water pump, and maybe see at least the water tank.
Whereabouts in France are you? It's probable that there's a Motorhomer near you who'd be able to locate a few things for you. AngloInfo or a local forum.

Well worth £10 to join here as you'll be able to ask anything and everything and get help.

Hi and welcome Steve & Sue, get your£10 out has been the best advice so far.

As far as finding your waste water tank is concerned it might be possible to trace it from the drain point on the outside, otherwise the suggestion of getting all the cushions etc out is a good one as you can then lift all the lids and lockers and work out what you have and where it is, also a good time to check for any potential problems like leaks or signs of damp etc.

Hi and welcome (y)Have a look under your van for a big (prob)black tank with a pipe heading out to the side or back of the van, with a tap of some kind =waste tank :)Have a look under the bonnet for more than one battery =one starter one leisure -I have known a fiat of similar vintage with the LB down the side of the radiator at the front (ask Toledo,=Dave and Polly:D)edit Just noticed yours is a transit ;)that too may well have 2 batts under the bonnet -if not then as already been said look under the seat cushions

Check under the front passenger seat for the leisure battery. Not the only possible place, but worth looking.

I would have thought the waste tank will be where Terry (above) has described.

Does the van have no model name stickers on it, or lighter patches where they used to be? CI often use the vehicle length plus the number of berths as their model number, so a 6.5m long van with 6 berths will be a 656. Once you've got a model number try a Google image search.

I must assume that you found the van somewhere: Well done!
Secondly you found MHF, proving you are on a winning streak. So a big welcome to you, an almost all-round winner. 'Almost' because most people who buy a van, will get an update from the previous owner, to whom they can turn with specific questions which could include 'modifications' they made during their ownership.
The waste tank will also have a control valve, which is worth locating.
The leisure battery, according to the model, can be fitted outside, under the passengers seat or inside a floor box unit.
You may be able to identify your van from the logbook, the V5 tax form or one of the plates fitted under the bonnet or in the door-well.
Alternatively putting a photo into this Forum should strike a chord with some members.

Good luck!

Hi & welcome.
they used to like fitting leisure battery in side immediately behind drivers door (LHD)
Favourite for grey waste was right at back underneath.
Is the toliet a holding tank?

Thanks for all the welcomes and replies. we traced the waste pipes as suggested and found the waste tank under the rear of the camper with an easy empty valve.
When we bought it the previous owner had wired the electrics to the engine battery, after the kids played in it for a day, the battery was flat and we could not start it. so we disconnected it. We now need a leisure battery but we don't know, what battery or where it should go, There is no space for it under the front seats, any more advice?

Have you opened all the side lockers to see where it might have been ?
Have you looked where I suggested before ?
Some all round photo's would help.
Any chance you could ask the previous owner where it was /why he altered it ?
Is toilet a cassette or holding tank?

hi and welcome . our last m/h was a CI 4 berth LHD 20 yr old great van waste tank at back where you have already found, fresh water under seats behind cab seats and leisure battery behind driver seat outside locker under sink unit, (no bottom to this locker just a braket for the leisure bat to sit on) toilette was cassette. hope this helps, and has been said £10 for this site invaluable. cheers chris
