What gas BBQ? (1 Viewer)

Hi All
We are off to France again in June and we would like to take a compact BBQ with us this time. We have a Bailey 75-2 with an external gas point all ready to go but no Barbie!
Can anyone recommend a small-ish gas barbecue? A friend has the small Cadac one but we are looking for something just a bit bigger but not full sized.

Do you know what model it is? Our external locker is a bit on the low side but as with most, we could access it from under the bed.

It’s the domed lid that’s the issue . John takes the hinge pin out if we are short of space to take the lid off . Apart from the shape its brill

We just used to use one of these with a hot plate on the top though

I think you need to be a bit careful with the size of the hot plate. I believe these cookers are banned in Australia because they can explode. I think ( but don’t know) that problems arise if you get the little gas canister too hot by covering it with a pan or hot plate.

We have used one for 8 plus years without any issue though.

No!
The regulator is by your gas bottles/tank and is low pressure throughout the van, including the BBQ outlet.

No you need a external bbq point male plug, most dealers sell them.

We have a cadac which is brilliant just as good as our home bbq, had the small cadac safari to start with in our pvc, but got fed up with the legs collapsing on me & small cooking area, so upgraded to the grill chef which is so much better.

We use a Cadac Safari Chef 2 LP. Compact design (legs retract) doesn't take up much space. Easy to clean. The LP model works direct from the BBQ point. Can even cook pizzas if you purchase the stone plate.....I understand.

We had a Cadac (Carri chef) for years and changed it last year for a Weber Q1200. We’d certainly not go back - far more like a real barbecue, and easy to set up and use. The Cadac is more an outdoor cooker, but does have loads of attachments available. The height of the domed lid on the Weber may be an issue, though as Sueandjohn say.

Have to take lid off my Q1200 to fit in locker but it is only 2 P clips so only takes seconds to remove and refit

My vote goes to the Weber Q1200. Cook the meat low and slow with the lid down so no flare ups to burn the meat. Very versatile as it can be used as an oven as well as a grill. We have used it to roast meat and vegetables, bake jacket potatoes, and cook frozen chips. Add a cast iron griddle and you can do a full English breckie on it..

I have the larger Q2000 at home. It does the same and also makes a good pizza using a pizza stone. But that is too large for the Q1200.

We have bought one of these too. Going to try it this weekend.

As we don’t have a BBQ point we bought the double adapter so we can run it off 2 smallish canisters. Also a regulator to run off 6kg propane.

Never realised it was that heavy but they are well built and strong not flimsy cheap steel - like some at extortionate prices - pay your money take your chance i suppose

Thanks all for your input. We have finally decided on the Cadac 2 cook 2 pro as there is only the two of us and the wife says I would cook too much on a bigger BBQ (ergo I have to eat it). It will fit nicely in the outside locker and I have purchased a 2M gas hose to keep it well away from the van when cooking.
