:thumb: Well done Jimiol, looked at the web site and it does look a "gud un". Have already saved it as a favourite and next in Ireland (relatives in the North) will visit. Good luck

All the very best with your venture. Very fond memories of Doonbeg. Will come & visit on the next trip over - just not sure how soon that will be at the moment.

Here an update from Ireland.

We I have finally arrived and too my amazement the weather has been very good, hardly any rain, which unusual based on my previous trips over to Ireland. But I am not upset about that. And even when it does rain it is sunny at the same time.

I did find a bit more damage on the campsite than I was led to believe during the buying process, in fact I have subsequently found out that the force of the sea broke our lounge window and went inside our house, (a bungalow!!) and the campsite at the back is still really too wet for vehicle movement. But as you can see there is now some sea defences at the front of house and there are plans to extend the pier.

But the planners here are good and quick and have verbally stated that if I put in PP for a number of changes included hard standing and roads it will be approved. So for the last few weeks in addition to un packing boxes putting up toilet roll holders, soap dispensers I have also managed to get out and about and explore the coastline around Doonbeg. It is very similar to Cornwall but not as commercialised.

I agree they are expensive having just brought my car and MH from the UK. Plus to get to the side of Ireland where I'm located is a long way.

I have been checking around and there are several campsite in and around Co Clare but most are set up for park homes/statics and not that many for tourers so I hope as we don't have any statics we will appeal to a small but dedicated customer base. There are not many campsites as close to the beach as ours.

That said I would not want to be this close, taken at quilty.

Good luck, and very good wishes for a successful venture, Love Ireland, I will certainly come, with have to price the ferries out, when going to Ireland before, every year for three years and three weeks at a time, didn`t want to come back home. the three dogs were free on the ferry, so might be worth some funsters taking that into account.

I all I would need is, a level pitch, hard standing if possible, due to it being very wet in Ireland , ::bigsmile:water tap, emptying facilities, and clean toilet , wouldn`t use dishing washing, use my own shower, adult only , unless well behaved children, and dog area.

If I MUST stay on a campsite, I would like the site to have a reason for being where it is and to have the ground level enough for a Motorhome. They should subscribe to ACSI and charge the same as a reasonable Aire.
I really only want a campsite for somewhere to park legally overnight when there are no other immediate options.

Quick Update

Okay I made the jump, emigrated, imported Sweaty (Campervan) and here I am in Doonbeg. I've owned the campsite since 24 March. And we have done lots to the site with lots more to do before we will be entirely happy with it. We arrived to basically a 1 acre field with 8 EHUs, a shower block that had saloon style wooden doors, nice on a cold drafty day.
Since then we have added a gravel road to all pitches we have 17 hard standing pitches and 22 EHU points.
The shower block now has 6 new UPVC doors and a lick of paint.
We were full for the first time last weekend as it was the Jazz Festival in the village.
I met a funster who popped down from Lahinch in his very nice sporty tow car who popped in to say hello, I hope he had a good time in France.
I must admit the people I have met since I arrived over here have made the move worthwhile. If you look at the size of Ireland and see that it has a population of 4.5 million, which means lots of space lots of greenery, lovely beaches, the longest coastal drive in the world. You suddenly understand why the Irish people are always happy and enjoy the craic.

more photos

I have made some mistakes, particularly when we allowed some campers to stay when we had building works going on. I tried in my best French (hand signals, talking louder and using a slightly hello hello accent) and tried to explain there would be some noise from 8am when the builders started and twice this led to 2 lots of French campers being gone from the site before 8. I reckon they thought I had they needed to leave before 8!
I now have an arrival leaflet translated by google translate into 8 languages, not too sure how good the translation is but I haven't seen too many people laugh as they read it.

Looking forward to a busy weekend now!!

The only things I require on a site are a reasonably level pitch with a bit of space, water, grey and black dump. WIFI is useful but all the other bits like washrooms ehu I don't use so am not happy paying for. €20 a night more than I would be prepared to pay.

I want to put in a drive over grey waste drain, as my van is fitted with a grey tank and a lever to open the same which empties at the back of the van in the middle and this type of drain is the easiest for me to use, but I would welcome any other suggestions.

Thanks in advance.
Jim

Our grey waste discharges on the right, just in front of the rear wheel. We have a hose we can use to direct it somewhere else but whenever possible we try and avoid this as we don't want a wet, dripping hose to deal with just when we are leaving a site.

So a second drain down the side would be ideal. Either side, it doesn't matter as we can drive in or reverse as necessary.

OOPS - Just realised I was replying to the original question which was last year and the site is now open under new management! Good luck!

Your site looks lovely, if I ever get over to Ireland to tour it will definitely be on my list of good sites to stay at.

I particularly like the pricing (being a solo traveller) - 9 euros per night (12 with EHU) for a nice site with all the facilities I need compares very favourably with what I expect to pay in the UK.

Good luck with your venture.

Friendly owner, tap, loo, shower, nice view, acoustic music encouraged, dogs welcome with an enclosed field where they can run free for a while. Dog friendly beach and it would be perfect. Anyone know such a place?

We have a few solo travellers who have appreciated the solo price rather than a unit price that includes 2 adults and extra for kids/additional adults. We charge per person and we are happy with that. We were going to include electric in a higher price but I took onboard a number of funsters stating they don't need electric. Hence it now being an extra.
Our site is too small for an enclosed field for dogs but we do have a dog friendly beach 10m from our entrance.
Am I friendly? Yes most of the time apart from when campers use a disposable BBQ on the grass, and then put it in the bin prior to it going out and setting the bin alight.
Our shower block is old but it is spotless and everything works. We have hand dryers that do, saving the need to wipe hands on your clothing, airfresheners that work.
Music, we are in Ireland, say no more!
So in answer to another post 2 people one MH no electric less than 20 euro - done.:thumb:
