I'm a newbie
Do people take seating and bed mattress indoors over winter?

Place Newspapers all upon the top of any upholstery loosely a number of single pages scattered is better than solid, as the atmosphere changes the paper absorbs any damp in the air and inturn dries out as the air dries, this is a complete cycle you will experience no mild or damp smells. A simple operation that l have used for years.

Our MH is in our driveway. We do have a dehumidifier in there as well as a small electric heater which we put on low few hours a day. We intend to take her out every few weeks for a run. Just don't want to be taking mattresses in and out all the time.

We don't do anything. No heating, no dehumidifier just go in every so often. We use our van throughout the year so no need to bring in bedding etc. Been doing this for years, including when we had caravans and never had a problem. Best thing is to use it as much as you can.

Don’t heat it as that causes moisture due to inside and outside temp difference. Also potentially gives you false sense with no freeze damage, but the bits that freeze are often hidden so don’t get the warmth from the heater. That is why manufacturers tend to run pipes with the vans heater ducts.

The dehumidifier will provide slight heat, remove some air moisture and make the air inside circulate.

Our beds/seats have slatted supports which helps with preventing condensation.

We don’t use any heating or dehumidifiers during the winter but we do open the hab door on nice days.

However, we are “all year round” users so it rarely stands on the drive for more than two weeks at a time.

A dehumidifier will pull moisture out of your van in great quantities for ever..What it is doing is pulling damp air into the van and removing the moisture from the atmosphere.Utter waste of time.I have a good one for sale, 15 quid, not been used for years. BUSBY.

We used to bring the cushions in over winter in the old caravanning days.
Not any more, though. We live in hope that we'll be off again very soon and we don't have the space (or inclination) now and humping a heavy double mattress around would be no fun.
Dehumidifying is a waste, as you should have plenty of ventilation instead. You will be trying to dry the local area, not just your van and would need to drain a lot of water.
Just tilt any cushions that you can onto their sides to let the air flow around them.

It can‘t pull more moisture in than is in the air anyway. So running a dehumidifier can’t do more harm.

I assume you don’t bother with running the Air Conditioning whilst driving as it isn’t efficient as vehicle isn’t sealed air tight.

Ask yourself this: what do dealers do?

Answer: nothing!

Ian
Don’t understand that. They will sell anything they can. They are not keeping it, it’s not their bedding, it’s not their money, they are just selling what is on the yard. I don’t treat my house like an estate agent does.

Agreed, but if their inaction actually caused any problems don’t you think that potential customers would be put off?

They don’t seem to have any problems finding customers and I’m fairly confident that customers aren’t asking for new soft furnishings as part of the deal.

My own van is now 15 years old and has gone through 15 winter’s without any special precautions and without any issues.

I don't actually because I don't have air con.BUSBY.

For a few pence per day, I will make sure my van is dry, and run my dehumidifier. But as long as your happy with your setup great. I don’t trust a dealer to do the best for the vehicle they are just estate agents for moving houses.

It's weird but when I use dehumidifier in the house with windows closed after a day it doesn't draw any moisture out of the air.In the van it was pulling moisture out in huge amounts a week later.Wonder why ? BUSBY.

It’s the difference in the level of ventilation; not much in the house, plenty in the MH. 👍

That's what I thought,,Will never dry out in the van because dehumidifier is pulling outside air in..BUSBY.

Yes. So the dehumidifier is causing ventilation, and air movement which is what I want in my van, as do many of the posts above.
