I’m remaking the kitchen in my 2001 A-S Clubman and the leisure battery, charger and changeover relay are all in the bottom of the cabinet, at least they were but now there is no cabinet. I was surprised to find that the end of the changeover relay holder and the side of the relay itself have disintegrated leaving a white powdery residue on the carpet and the inner workings of the relay exposed. I assume the relay was bolted through the tab on the holder to something that has caused the problem over 20 years or so. There is a very corroded screw head in the floor that may have held a bracket. I have ordered replacements and don’t want the same thing to happen so will use A2 stainless bolt and bracket, but out of curiosity can anyone suggest what has caused this? It has to be something potent to eat metal and plastic! Bolt and bracket dissimilar metal corrosion? Cadmium?
