Also in the air over the boundary this week: peregrine falcon, lapwing (they started a little colony last year and have returned), hooded crow, greater black-backed gull, buzzard.
Landed & foraging in the garden space: blackbird m & f, wren, thrush, wheatear m & f (though he seems to have gone off somewhere)
At the feeder: all the usual suspects - greenfinch, chaffinch, goldfinch; great tit, blue tit, longtailed tit; pair of siskin; starling;
Under the feeder: rock dove aka pigeon (8); collared dove (one); lark (just the one has found the easy meal & not told the rest of the flock!); mixed flock house sparrow and dunnock (a few sparrows go on the feeders); 3 male reed warbler, 2 female; mixed flock of about 3 dozen linnet & redpoll (a small number of these go onto the feeder)
Redwing flock seems to have come and gone very quickly, it's probably warmer in Iceland.

Hardly surprising I never get any work done, is it?

We seem to be getting a group of black birds coming to the garden. Do they normally stay as a group

We get loads here, noticed quite a few of the eastern European blackbirds here, the males have black beaks, apparently over here because it’s warmer 😳🤣

Here just now at the feeder there's only goldfinches, chaffinches, sparrows, 2 great tits, 2 blue tits, 1 coal tit (unless they're taking it in turns), 1 rock dove and 1 m blackbird.
Overhead, ravens are flying very close and lower than usual. Buzzards. Occasional geese.
Mind, the weather's foul so they're probably finding somewhere a bit less exposed.

In winter they can flock together yes, not in the breeding season, if there’s plenty of food around in winter they can flick together and also warmth during the night.

Yes we have a black beak one flying in with the yellow beak males. The starlings come mob handed like a bunch of teenagers on the rampage. Haha

Two of our rarer visitors , only had my phone to hand , got camera ready now so they have vanished 😁
Thanks for that Big Garden Birdwatch idea, David, something we can do with grandkids of The Gruppenfuhrer when they’re here this weekend. We can also get them to put the bait out replenish the feeders in preparation for such. 🙂

As we are opposite a park we put the feeders in our front garden, we don't get many birds out the back. Lots of gulls, since we are very close to the beach and they just get left-over bread on the garage roof, way down the end of the back garden! In the front we mainly get goldfinches, starlings, pigeons, blue tits, crows and magpies, collared doves, the odd robin and wren and rarely a great spotted woodpecker.

Overhead we often see buzzards and sparrowhawk.

We have had to put a 'baffle' on the feeder post to stop the squirrels getting all the food, but we give them our sunflower heads when they have gone to seed, they love them.

Feels like a few less every year for us in North London/Herts borders. From a bird's perspective, we are top left of the corner made up of the A1 and M25, J25. There is quite a lot of open ground, golf courses and woods nearby, and a little water.

We do get a lot of Starlings but I think they nest not so far away and come to the feeders when young and then disperse, make quite a racket when they argue:giggle:. I remember sparrows, but I'd be lucky to see just one these days. A few green parakeets, a pair of Eurasian Jays, Robins, Pigeons, some tits, and the odd crow.

All of these apart from the pigeons have bee noticeable by their absence this week, maybe it's the weather...

Our regular and main visitors are foxes and pigeons; so flying the flag for norf lhandan pests.

We get the usual garden visitors but one of the most unusual was a heron. He walked around the garden, past the pond (thankfully) and then took off. He had real attitude!

We get increasingly varied birds of prey passing overhead - kites, buzzards, falcons, goshawks, etc. We once had a goshawk take a wood pigeon from our garden and was ripping it apart near the hedge. Unfortunately our dog chased him off before I could get hold of him. We also get owls at night - which I love listening to.

I think that's a her, not a him. Male has red patch on back of head.
Think your correct, just looking at the picture I took yesterday and clearly he was a male and this bird isn't as big and can't see any red on head.
so two different Woodpeckers in two days, brilliant.

If you are lucky they will be a local breeding pair and may return with their young ... and just to confuse matters, the young have a red patch on top of their heads until they mature.

Well I don't take pictures in the garden simply due to the urban nature of where I live -
But our usual birdlife is a little bare as I found out when I sat for an hour for the Big Garden Birdwatch when I saw nothing

Sparrows and Starlings lots of
Ring neck Doves and Wood Pigeons
1 pair of blackbirds
a single Robin sometimes
in summer we get Goldfinches

OTT
Buzzards
Kestrels
Sparrowhawks
in winter we get overflies by at least 3 flocks of Geese
Gulls - lots of Gull breeds - BHG,GBBG,HG,CG
and an occassional Heron

We had a goldcrest in the garden yesterday, beautiful little bird, had one nice before, my challenge is to photograph it now 😁👍
Oh wow, how lovely! We occasionally had one drop by for a week or so in Cornwall (and one year a firecrest), I never managed a decent shot, they never stop moving - good luck with that, I'll love seeing your pictures!

I did try to get him not on the feeder, but he flew in straight to it then away again. We see the female with the brown head more regularly
