What are you all using on pull out beds? Memory foam, sleeping bags, fitted sheets, duvets?

We have used memory foam covered in a sheet with a duvet on top but have a new van conversion and were thinking of just using a double sleeping bag to save space.

Fitted sheet, sheet & quilt.

I would’ve used sleeping bags but mrskevenh isn’t a camper 🤷‍♂️
So duplicates what she’s used to indoors.

When I’ve “borrowed” the Motorhome for a recent music festival without her, I did happily use a sleeping bag on the overcab bed.

Mattress topper in a duvet cover, and duvet over the top, thin one in summer, heaver weight (and more bulky) one in autumn/winter.
The bed in my van conversion is hard as nails, and I hate sleeping bags. Can never get comfortable in them. Getting the bed ready takes 30 seconds, and about 2 minutes to put back to 'day mode' in the morning.
Can't argue that decent sleeping bags do take up less space though.

On our first MH we slept on the two longditudanal couches as singles.
Best solution we found was a double duvet each. Fold the duvet lengthways into three parts like a letter Z. Place on couch and lie between bottom and middle part. Pull top over your body and let it hang down side. No draughts and no cold spot on side of van.

For storage, fold back to a Z , place pillows on one end, roll pillows & duvet into a roll and put a bungee round or slip into drawstring bag for tidiness.

Duvalay sleeping bags with memory foam pad are great, you don’t feel constricted ( mummified) like a normal S/bag and you switch quilts for summer and winter, just don’t buy the space quilts from Duvalay, any standard single quilt fits so Dunhelm are good value.

We use a sheet over the bed than sleeping bags with alpkit cloud cover to supplement sleeping bags when it's a bit cold. As for pillows we use the van cushions with pillow slips over the top.
Bed made up in no time and come morning every things packs down then stored in over head locker.
Simple, quick takes up little room and works for us.

I am intrigued by the various solutions to this question.

I am also grateful that we have a fixed king-sized bed, fitted sheet and duvet. So for us it is just like at home, and available for a siesta - getting more important with age.

Of course we lose the advantage of a smaller vehicle for car parks etc. but it does not seem to impinge on what we want the MH for, which is the countryside.

I liked the idea of Duvalays, but I had a far from impressive brush with their staff at the NEC some years ago where I'd gone to see them ready to spend, but because of their condescending and rude sales person they lost that sale.

I subsequently discovered that in any case I hate the feel and warmth of memory foam, so in hindsight it was probably a lucky reprieve! I bought a Zonesleep topper instead. A sprung topper, which is breathable so cool in summer, warm in winter. Still looking immaculate and performing perfectly after several years of ownership.

We use a lightweight double duvet on the bottom & a king size on the top. Pillows are used as cushions on the sofas in the day. Duvets stored under the seat. Used to use a topper, but it was heavy & difficult to put away & get out. The bottom duvet is just a shake & it’s on!

I am not sure that we feel any warmth from the foam, it is covered with a fine mesh which may help, but I have read that Duvalay have now brought out a cool Memory foam version. I suspect it’s ‘cool because it may have multiple holes cut out if it! suffice to say, it’s bloody expensive.
Because Dee is a dab hand with a sewing machine we priced up the zips and material to make our own version but the long zips are not cheap, so didn’t follow up on that idea.

I too had a odd experience at one of the shows with a Duvalay rep, asking me why I didn’t want to buy there and then, Hilary Devel of Dragons Den loved them so much she’s invested, I asked does she use them?, no response. I didn’t buy then but bought 2 later and we love them.

In our last moho we used Duvalays on the two bench seats, effectively single beds. Superbly comfortable. The new (to us) Burstner has a drop down double bed. The mattress is quite thin but underneath it is a mesh construction that adds extra support. So far, two nights, we’ve found it very comfy with a fitted sheet and light double duvet.

Double bed memory foam topper in a made to almost measure duvet cover, my sewing skills are suspect and a duvet each i use a 1 tog and john a 3, double mine over when it is cold and have a very thin light weight but ever so cosy fleece throw for the winter.
Use a sleeping bag in the doblo but opened up as i like to put my feet out.

Thanks for all the replies, we've decided to go with the mattress topper covered in a double duvet, then king size duvet on top. This stops having to fit a sheet and makes exiting the bed easy.

Instead of sheets..Check out the dimensions of an IKEA single duvet cover.... 150cm x 200cm . European sizes are larger than UK.. so I think it should fit a double mattress topper which is 135cm x 190cm...with no sewing..I am going to try it as soon as I can get to IKEA....I think you may need to undo the opening side right to the edges...
