I have decided to make a big step and go from a pop-top camper to an A class.

I want a small LHD A class and really like the size and layout of the Hymer B584, but can't really find any details of what the difference is to the Hymer 584 Classic.

My budget means I'm looking at vans built around 2004.

I saw a B584 this week and the size and layout were ideal but unfortunately the van wasn't 'the right one'.

Looking at current ads. the Classic looks to have a more basic spec. and have a different front end. There are a couple on the market but before viewing I would like help with what the differences are and any thoughts and advice on what to check for. Are there any owners of either model with any thoughts?

All help and advice appreciated.

I had a 2008 B584 Classic. The differences that I became aware of: pre-uplift cab & dashboard, truck-type mirrors, single floor, non-Alko chassis, better cabinetry. Not an exhaustive (and maybe not an accurate) list.

Also like the idea of the double floor and Alko chassis so that's helpful, thanks

The 584 is nice van and should be plenty on the market. I was tempted to go for one but opted to sacrifice a bit of internal space for the garage of the B524.

Good luck to you.

Thanks I'll keep looking, there don't seem to be many around at the moment but I guess it's that time of year.

Thanks for that, the external lockers are certainly a requirement and the B584 I saw had plenty of those.
The classic had a "ski" locker that ended behind the step. It took a couple of chairs, windbreak, poles, ramps, mains lead, etc. On the offside behind the gas locker was a skirt drawer that held a gas barbecue & a lot of other bits & pieces, filler hose, etc. So not bad for no garage. A bit short of internal storage we found.

I`d guess the water tanks are under the hab seats taking up valuable space are they ?
The fresh water tank was along the nearside behind the table. From memory it was around 9" in width, the height to the underside of the table, and long enough to give it a capacity of 120 litres. It didn't intrude on anything. I had 2 x 90 Ah batteries under the drivers seat & nothing under the passenger seat. The grey tank was just behind the rear axle underneath.

All useful information for me, thanks for your input.

I think..note ‘think’...the Classic is more basic and maybe the quality isn’t quite the same.
We have a 2001 Hymer B584, on Fiat, single floor, no garage, but big locker right thru under floor at rear, drop down bed over front seats, long settee that turns into big single bed, huge washroom/shower with bifold door, lovely quality all round.
The Classic look different from outside too.

We have a 2001 B584 and its not the classic and it’s got a Fiat chassis and no double floor.
I think the cabinets are slightly different in the classic-kitchen cupboard doors she straight rather than curved and the fridge is in different position.
On the outside a classic doesn’t have the fibreglass front and rear top and the side walls go right to top corner rather than the roof on ours comes down to the side wall.

Have you tried to get the Hymer brochure on line for that year, it has all the details for different types....I downloaded the 2007 brochure a couple of years back when we bought our Hymer.

That is my impression, the B584 I looked at was 2002 and layout as you describe with an oven below the hob.

I'll have another look later, I have struggled to find older brochures only the current ones. I must look a bit harder!

It took me ages to find the brochure for mine online, I can’t even recall where I got it from. The other option is to email Hymer as I’m sure they have archive of all older brochures.

I have finally found the 2002 brochure online which I'll try to post the link to below. It's a pdf in German so I'm slowly working through the spec sheet and translating. As suggested above it seems by 2002 the Classic was a Ducato chassis but the B584 was an Alko.

I have looked on Hymer Market but no B584's about at the moment. The search and research continues!
Thanks for all the help and advice.

The Hymer Classic is lower to the ground because it does not have a double floor. The double floor houses the water tanks on most models to stop them from freezing it has heating. On our B584 we use to store our tables and chairs in the double floor.
