I put the 760 on insurance last week and they said it must have a Thatcham cat 11 immobiliser. My insurers gave me the number of the national company they use and I rang them last week. They wanted payment of £200 immediately and said there local fitter would be in touch. So tonight the fitter rings and says he will be with me to fit the gubins on Wednesday, oh and what make and model is it?. I told him what I had told the main office and that it was 24 volt, not 12. Oh he says, I have the wrong kit, i will ring you back. two minutes later, boss man rings and says he wants another £100. I tell him VERY politely where to go, and get my £200 back where he had it from.
I ring a local fitter who informs me that by law ALL European registered vehicles built after 1992 have to have a cat 11 immobiliser fitted by the manufacturer, and mine already has one fitted.
I wonder how many more have been conned out of £200 for something they already have.

Thanks a million Eddie. Here is the photos of the ignition key. It has a little insert in the end of it.

Keep you £200 and tell your insurance company that it has a Mercedes factory fitted immobiliser.

If they're difficult give me a shout and I'll dig out the paperwork

One of the things about being around for a long long time is that you know things lol :winky:

I would imagine that the insurance company are getting a kicker from there "recognised" alarm fitting company. They know the vehicle was made in 98 and would have had an immobiliser factory fitted. So the only reason I can think of that they would insist that I have another fitted would be to extract more money from me .
We will see what they have to say about it tomorrow :winky:.

Insurance companies are a law unto themselves. On one van I had a few years ago it had one of those removable steering wheels so that the drivers seat could swivel.
The insurance company said that it would have to have an immobiliser fitted. Even after I explained it came with the best immobiliser available, NO STEERING WHEEL the girl kept whittering on about company practice .

7 years campers before that
problem with compulsory systems is the theives soon find a way round them where as a one off is much safer but not recognised by the insurance companies trackers are nearly always fitted in the same place for each model and the scum just rip them out
