Am becoming brave enough to venture out again - fancy Spain - BF to Santander or Bilbao - then - so we go south to the guaranteed warmth - Andalusia via Madrid - as central Spain can be chilly - or is the northern coast pleasant enough at that time of year? Thoughts and suggestions welcomed - stay safe everyone

In my experience it can be very damp on the north coast, particularly at that time of year.

Saying that, it can be at any times of year...

Maybe damp and warm is better than damp and cold! We like the site at Candas in particular

That's funny. We are doing exactly the same trip on the 1st May

I am expecting to go South as the weather in the North is very unpredictable in May. If you are very lucky it can be quite pleasant, but normally its wet and cold.

The good thing about having a motor-home though is you don't need to decide until you look at the weather forecast when you land in Bilbao/Santander

If the forecast is good (and it can be) we will stay north as we love Northern Spain

We've sometimes found it warm and sunny on the Costa brava early in the year, though also had it cold with torrential rain. Just be prepared to move if needed.

Me and jumartoo once cycled from Roncesvalles to Santiago late April into May...we had a mixed bag of dry and wet...since then we holiday on the North coast during July and August...it's about the same as being in the SW of the UK....
Generally speaking worth giving it a try, if you need better weather the Spanish motorway system gets you to wherever you need to be quickly and currently free...

We spent a week there in April about 10 years ago and the weather was lovely.

According to the locals though we were very lucky.

Beautiful part of the World though.(y)

I was there a few years back at Zarautz, near San Sabastian in early Dec, for a month, weather was mostly sunny cool and dry with a couple of food festivals.
It was only after leaving the coast and going inland to the South that temperature fell below zero!
