We've developed an online journal. It has many of the features that dedicated travel journal sites enjoy. Essentially, it will work like this.

You can create a journal. This might be for a particular trip or maybe a year. Once created, you'll be able to make entries into that journal. You can have more than one journal if you wish.

You'll be able to put those journal entries into different categories. Things like UK touring. Continental touring, perhaps a van build journal or just a day-to-day life journal or an I quit smoking journal, literally anything.

For a touring journal, you’ll be able to plot yourself on a map. You’ll be able to make draft entries, set times and dates for when journal entries are published.

The journal can be public or private.

If you wish, you’ll be able to add information pages to your travel journal, maybe a page for your van, one for your dog, or a bucket list etc

If you choose to make your journal public then people will be notified when you post, they will be able to comment on your entry. We’ll also provide you with links to your journal, so you can let family and friends, who are not Funsters, easily follow your adventures.

Unlike a thread, all comments will appear under journal entries, so the flow of the journal is always unbroken, but you still get the essential interaction with a thread under each entry.

It’s looking good so far, hopefully I’ll have it live by the weekend; so if you fancy a bit of journalling, give some thought to what you want to journal about and start then. (y)

So this will encourage the use of a Journal as opposed to a Posted Thread that goes on for many months.

Not necessarily, the journal can go on for as long as a thread. And if you'd rather stay with a thread that's no bother either. Whatever people are happy with.

2010?
Will this work as well by only using a Mobil app Jim ?
I sometimes cannot find past threads but think it’s because I only use my iPhone 🤔

Every day a schoolday
Sounds like a great idea - looking forward to trying it out.
We have a mini trip to Andalucia planned in mid February and possibly a Morocco trip at the end of February 🤞

I think that’s a great idea. I have contributed on another forum and found keeping information shortish was the best option, this seems to encourage other people to get involved. Even by suggesting what to see and where to go during your trip.

If too long, then it seems to put people off reading it. Figures of hits tend to bear this out.
I hope information is kept entertaining and interesting.

I am looking forward to reading content in this new section.

Jim, great idea, thanks, question, can it be linked to routes or sites that contributors use also perhaps? I appreciate that may be difficult, but them at the start of our MH adventures can benefit by the wisdom of others who have a head start.

This sounds a good idea. I used to write ‘stories’ for each new place visited on our 8 week tours and posted them on the CAMC forum. This was so our family and friends, who were not members of the forum, could follow where we were, what we were getting up to and I could email them a link to the latest story. Simple and easy to do.

It was said to be helpful to other campers from the feedback. I ceased doing them when the forum lost all my photos ☹️

As a tester I tried doing a thread on here for our first tour in the new van last August but wasn’t overly pleased with the way it went and time it took to maintain it. A journal format may be better to dip in and out as I pleased and the family could view as and when they pleased.

Well done Jim, I’ll look forward to seeing it. I like the idea of the map

Funnily enough this is the project Rog and I were considering taking on in retirement. More from the iPhone perspective though - we were thinking of how much background content could automatically appear in travel blogs - things like geolocation, altitude, weather, route driven, location automatically subtitling photos, etc etc.

Working on the mapping now, if you choose to include locations in your journal, then each journal will get a mapping page, with every journal entry plotted on the map. You'll be able to click through the map to the journal entries too. Hopefully tomorrow, definitley by Wednesday (y)

I thought that was just location - does it add weather etc?
No, it just tracks your journey. It's up to you to add what you think is relevant at each stop, be it photos, description or technical info
