I'm a newbie
Does anyone know what the ferry charge is from Gourock to Dunoon?. On the website it says £17.50 for a vehicle upto 5m. My motor home is 7.5m do they charge extra?

I used to live in gourock and used the ferry frequently, but never for a MH.
The website http://www.western-ferries.co.uk/fares-info indicates for vehicles between 5& 10m you require 2car tickets (<5m)

However!!!!!
If you buy an advance 2 journey ticket from one of the shore agents listed online, you get the second car ticket for £0.90 ( the single car ticket is £17.10, the 2 journey advance ticket is £18.00 ;)

Go to the website for details. We never buy on the boat, only from Pauls Food & Wine 94 Shore St Gourock PA19 1RB http://www.western-ferries.co.uk/ticket-agents

Agree with Gerry, if you can buy the tickets before getting on the ferry, we used the ferry regularly when we lived in Dunoon and the 10 journey book got us 5 crossings, unlike cal mac the driver is included in the car ticket. Only thing to remember the ferry sails from McInroys point a bit out of Gourock and parking at the shop to buy advance tickets might be difficult so allow enough time.
If you somehow you don't get the tickets at the Gourock side and have to buy on the ferry there are plenty of places on the Dunoon side with good parking, e.g. Cot House garage, the Co op in Dunoon, to get the return cheaper.
Hope you enjoy your trip it's a lovely sail to a beautiful part of the country.

Since 1975 on and off.
Used the ferry about a month ago, drove on Motorhome under 8m, 3 people ,one way £38!!!!!! The ticket guy advised us it would have been half that if we had booked in advance. Only 10 min journey, ferry to Isle of Mull 50 minute journey £29.! So then educated about RET road equivalent tariff which is subsidised by government who I believe own Calmac or someone may correct.

Nothing really to do with RET which applies to islands ( Cowal is a peninsula)or Cal mac. Western have always had the policy of giving concessions on tickets bought in advance and taking full fare if bought on the ferry.
So sorry you didn't know about this before you got hit with the full fare, hope it didn't spoil your trip.

No didn't spoil it, we really enjoyed our first visit to Scotland, the scenery, the people and after having a blizzard in Oban the sun came out for the next 2 or more weeks.
