Has anyone got any nice places to stop off on the west coast of Scotland we will be coming from Thurso heading for probably Ullapool or Oban will have about 5 days to travel, would love to walk on a deserted beach as i am given to understand there are many of them or maybe visit some nice fishing villages for some nice fresh fish for dinner.

Thanks for any help.

If you want to stay on a site you could try the C&CC site at Poolewe..... it has a nice beach but I doubt it would be deserted.
We overnighted a few miles round the corner on the B8057 towards Firemore Beach. That was deserted!

Shieldaig campsite has amazing views. For fresh fish you can wander down to the Coastal Kitchen. There’s also Nanny’s cafe. And, if it’s open, pick up some amazing hot smoked salmon from the Torridon Smokehouse in Shieldaig village. If you like kayaking Shieldaig adventures will take you out around the island to look for the white tailed eagles. Then, if you like coffee and cake, visit Jo’s aka Torridon Stores and Cafe. You look out over the loch from the cafe. Check out the Gille Brighde too - amazing wee restaurant in Diabaig which is such a pretty harbour. BUT stony beaches on loch Torridon. Best beaches are at Mellon Udrigal £15 a night at the informal campsite no facilities but pure beauty and sand!

Big Sand near Gairloch - opposite Skye. Been going there since 1974 but don't tell the others ...

Bunree is very nice. Just 10 miles south of Ft. Williams. Get the pitches without the awning.Other option is Glen Nevis in Ft. Williams.

Thanks everyone we will see how things go and post our finding for you all cheers

There's nowhere deserted since NC500 was dreamed up.

As with climbing / mountaineering / outdoors in general, people who had the urge, went out & found it anyway.

That's a big difference from people who go there because it was posted on tw*tter or some such, for the main reason so they can post it too

The NC500 was not dreamed up,it was invented by a Danish bloke who just happens to own most of the land and rest stops/ restaurants along the so called route( which was already there for donkeys years) hence it being very fashionable, and rightly hacking off the local people who benefit little from the massive influx of twitter/facebook/instagram knobheads who wouldn’t see beauty if it kicked them in the face.

Plenty of folk making money from NC500, I know I work for quite a few, airbnb's, B n B's and holiday lets, cafes and craft stalls on the route.

Maybe I shouldn't post this one!

Might encourage too many folk to visit. We're hoping to be back in September \ October this year.

It isn't always cloudy over Torridon!
