On my van, I have a large locker, and its two different keys. (Not sure if that's normal, deliberate/ changed over time).. Either way it was annoying... Anyway, as the rear lock started jamming, I thought to replace it. Weeks later, and searching every corner of the internet and doing reverse image searches, I am no closer to replacing it like for like.

Its an old van. 2003. So I expected a bit of a faff. Just not this much of a faff. The main problem revolves around the barrel locks cylinder,shroud/case. If you look in one of my pictures, its has a cross shape cam lock.

I cannot find this anywhere... I can buy a hole new lock for £59. But that seemed a silly amount to pay. More so, as it doesn't come with a key anyway.

This is my lock as a complete unit behind.

This is what I have found.

Has anyone seen this type of lock before? And if you have any suggestions, a place to find them... I have contacted several places, and provided details down to the vin number, but I have not struck gold.

The best I have so far, is going to a lock smith, and finding something close (Ish), and then draw & 3D print the adaption... this adaption basically creates a spacer and profile of the Cross + from the original shroud, so the lever can fit on. Its not perfect though.

I forgot to add, I cannot use the original shroud which would of been ideal, as the barrel completely froze inside it, and it had to be hammered out of the shroud, which damaged the cross part.

Loads out there.

Have you tried releasing the barrel from the shroud? Does this video help?

funnily enough, that's the video I watched. And it was the hammering part that destroyed the outer shroud. It didn't break for him, because its a newer design, and the shroud doesn't have the cross piece like mine does. I can also find complete locks, for £60 but I just wanted to replace the barrel, and thats now turned into replacing the shroud also, which looks like its now heading for a new lock system!

Yes they can be expensive.

Have you tried breakers yards etc.
I haven't no. The ones around me have (last time i went) dont let you wonder around, or take individual parts. They sell complete systems like engines. Scrappies use to be a good source of loot though!

It looks like I'll just need to buy the complete system which is annoying. Thank you for you help though.

Have you tried a load of penetrating oil before you write off the old one?
I've saved two locks on our new-to-us Laika and one from the sister-in-law's van by simply freeing them off with lots of WD40 and a bit of manipulation.

A touch of thin oil in the locks has always been part of my routine maintenance.

Its a good shout, but yes, I did try that first. Wasn't lucky unfortunately.

It was going so well until your last sentence, I have the magic key that removes the barrel from FAP locks (they are all pretty much the same barrel) as long as they are unlocked. It is then possible to refit into any surround.

Ah well. Im not even sure if the magic key would work, as my main key wouldn't fit all the way in, as I think one of the teeth was broken. Im obviously hoping it was truly gubbed, as it means I truly didn't have any other way of removing it! Im amazed you cannot buy the shroud though.

Sounds like you have already spent more than the "ridiculous" price of a new lock trying to find the replacement. There comes a time in every search when you just have to stop banging your head against the wall.

Your not wrong. In a proper tail between the legs moment, I have had to buy the complete unit.

When it arrives, im going to draw up a complete unit though for future 3D Printing from the old one..
