Well that Windows 10 update took a while (1 Viewer)

Just had a huge Windows 10 update, my laptop is no slouch with ssd and i7 processor but it still took an hour or two.
Anyone else took the plunge into the unknown.....

Same here buttons, i7 and Ssd. The upgrade swallows up disk space. I needed to remove manually the old windows files.

Mine was doing it last night with an update and shutdown. Haven't looked at it yet!
Its called the Celebration update I think. Probably celebrating the one millionth Windows vulnerability discovered.

Don't think it's the Fall Creators Update; as the name suggests, that's due to be released in the Autumn. Unless you're on the Insiders program.

Mine says it's upto date and was last updated on 24th June, only a few days ago so must be the same update. That accounts for me swearing at it 'cos it was going so slow. Didn't notice any problems with disk capacity but my laptop has a 1TB drive.

I think Windows 10 is brilliant. I still have win7 on another laptop but would never go back to it, like stepping back in time.

I did try Windows 10 but didn't like it ... too much stuff hidden and aimed at tablet/touch screen users.

I agree, my lap top/tablet is touch screen which works well with Win10 but to be honest I still use the keyboard for most entries.
I must say that I felt similar to you when I went from 7 to 8 from which the change to Win10 wasn't so radical.

Mine's an HP 2in1, still use the touch screen quite a lot but after the novelty wore off can't remember the last time I folded it over and used it as a tablet. Biggest problem is at home it's plugged into my 24" screen and when I touch that nothing happens apart from me swearing.

We don't have a windows machine in the house or office now. That makes me happy too. The saving in money and wasted time is considerable. Ditched MS Office from all the machines, more money saved

Yes indeed, it has just installed itself on my PC. All seems to be working.
A lot of the features are linked to gaming so not much use to me but there is a feature called "nightlight" which is supposed to be better for use at night - might suit some of the night owls here.
Windows Defender is now called Windows Defender Antivirus though I thought Defender was already an antivirus thing? No matter, it can't do any harm, hopefully.

ah ha - I received that version a few weeks ago - went through a series of reboots before declaring its self complete. Microsoft seem to be randomly staggering the roll out presumably to avoid overloading servers and their help systems. Sounds like I wont be having another major update for a while then (phew)

Very funny ... I tried it when it was the 'free upgrade' so nothing to sell ... but ... we're currently having a good rummage around sorting out loads of stuff we don't want/use anymore so be prepared for more stuff going up for sale soon!

Sounds like I wont be having another major update for a while then (phew)

Next one starts rolling out in September and then every March and September thereafter (allegedly)!

I would like to know if it's absolutely necessary to install these updates? seems to take forever and I don't know if they do any good? my laptop always seems the same after updates as it was before....
As you may realise I am not too good with computers, I can just about navigate this site and get stuff off ebay ...
