Due to leave UK on Wednesday for 2 months in Spain when I realised that we would need an MOT whilst we were away. Took van in this morning for it's early MOT - passed, no advisories. Great stuff. :) On the way back van started misfiring, Check Engine Fault light came on and van went into limp mode. This happened about 3 weeks ago and we had taken it into the garage who reset the fault and suspected dirty fuel so he put 2 bottles of Forte Diesel treatment in and we filled it up with Shell V(ery expensive!) power diesel and gave it a good run out - all seemed good. Took van back into garage this morning and the diagnostics came up with P0268 fault pointing to injector valve 3. CEF light will go out if we turn engine off and restart 3 or 4 times, but then comes on again within a few miles. The really scary bit is when it goes into limp mode as we can't even get up a slight hill easily. Got it booked into a specialist injector and diesel pump garage on Tuesday with the possibility that they will have to replace the faulty injector. Just hope they can get to it easily as it's an A class motorhome with a bonnet the size of a letterbox. Don't know when we'll get away now and, although we have extended Gold warranty (3rd party) on the van I can't get a definitive answer from them as to whether this is covered. They say they have to speak to garage first so we may end up with a not insignificant bill. Anyone had the same problem, and does anyone know roughly what the bill is likely to be? Am a bit dischuffed to say the least. :(
Oh, and it's a Pilote Explorateur G742.

If they are that specialized they should be able to sort out the injector without replacement.. But knowing how garages work today I suspect that may be a forlorn hope :-(
Whatever, it is only about a 90 minute job tops to pull out the old and fit a new one.. The bad news is, depending on where they get tehm from, anywhere from £55 to £150 for a replacement :)

Oh and a little side bet.. The insurance does not cover it ..
I really hope i am wrong but it does seem that all of those schemes cover so little as to be pretty duff..
I am keeping various digits crossed for you !

Not taking your bet - think you're absolutely correct!

Oh no! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. Looking on the bright side - at least it happened in the UK, and not when you were half way down Spain. Good Luck!(y)

Trying to cheer you up on the finance side--France is just as bad. Main dealer(Ford) wanted FOUR HUNDRED AND SEVENTY EUROS to replace a defunct electric window motor unit on a Mondeo. Unit cost £30 and 1/2hr to fit when I got home. Stuff you eu!

i presume that the injector wiring loom has been checked? seen the same symptoms before caused by bad connections

What @TheBig1 said.
common fault on injector wires.been going on with Fiat/Peugeot/Citroen for many years. Mate had it on his Peugeot a few years back whilst here. Main dealer would only change as per Peugeot instructions , & then only all 4. 180€ for new wires, 1 hours labour +vat 250€ all in.
have a google as many will clean up the connectors as B1 said .

I've read about this too. I will ask them to check this first - just hope they don't get shirty and think a woman is trying to teach their granny how to suck eggs.

Got motorhome back today - the garage felt it was the fuel filter that was causing the problem so they have fitted a new one. Fingers crossed they are correct 'cos we're leaving on Saturday via France to Spain.

When our Rapido kept going into limp mode, especially when going up hill, the garage found that the turbo waste gate was seized, they free'd it off and it now runs perfect, maybe your could be checked

I find that ours goes much faster if I keep the grey waste tap open for about an hour. (y)

@Tootles it's nothing to do with the grey waste tap, it's something to do with the engine!!!!!
Never! Well, I'll be! :Eeek: Mine was defiantly the turbo grey waste deliminator off valve that was seized. Small world!.
