The croc has a gland that expels salt from it's body The alligator doesn't, ergo the croc can live in salt water.

Encountered Alligators at Cape Canaveral in Florida where they roam free (its actually an animal sanctuary as well as space centre) & they were less than 20ft away before I spotted them!!! :eek:

What you and I would call a large burn, to the right of you as you drive towards the cape ,was jam packed with them in 2008. I was driving but my two sons and good lady kept saying there were plenty , I got the odd glimpse as the road was as straight as an arrow. Wouldn't like to get too close to one.
If you REALLY wanted to get rid of someone the burn would be ideal.

Used to be wary of crocs. Even in the bush, miles from a lake or river, they would lie up in a ditch. Over a short distance they can outrun you.

In my teens I sailed dinghys on a lake full of crocs. The trick was not to capsize close to a croc. The pair of eyes poking out of the water, watching, waiting ... :Eeek:
