Hi all
Had a look at the weather forecast yesterday and it said "Go on Keith, do the RV roof mate"...... Up I went a scrubbed the roof totlally clean. Got the roof paint from Stateside Tuning (discount qualifying plug ) and intended to paint it today once it had dried.
Got up this morning and look at the darn rain, I give in..........:Frown:
I hope it improves soon as I want to get the roof painted before we go to France next week
Please all pray for sunshine

Keith

Keith what is the purpose of painting the roof. Is it a kind of sealant as well? I didn't realise you were supposed to paint it. Wait till I tell Bryan, I bet he'll be thrilled!:Laughing::Laughing:

Hi Suzy
Our roof has a rubber membrane and over the years it tends to dry out etc with the effects of sunlight and general weathering. It loses the top coat and absorbs dirt etc.... The result is that whenever it rains (almost a daily occurance this summer :Frown:) you get dirty white streaks all down the sides of the van and it is difficult to remove and unsightly, so by using a special EPDM roof paint, the top coat is replaced, the roof covering is sealed again and the roof covering will work better and last longer.
Go on Bryan, you know you want to mate

Keith

Ps It has just stopped raining..... Keep on praying :) I need the ministry of The Right Reverend G I think :):)

Thanks for the offer Vanessa, very kind
As your access is a little tight I think that the roof may get done and look nice but what about the sidewalls??? They may need fixing then :Laughing:
The sun is out today so I am hopeful to get cracking as soon as the dew has burned off and the roof is dry

Keith

I have having a well earned few minutes off, if you all don't mind :Laughing:

I will let you know when it is done

Keith

Must be "up on the roof" day today. I've been up on mine using lap sealant to seal round the base of my air horns. Some numpty had used normal household silicone and it had cracked and was leaking like mad. Lap sealant looks like icing when you put it on, I had to resist a taste!

Come on Kands i could have painted a polaris sub in less time

only took me 2 hours to do mine
you sure your only playing with your brush up there :Wink:

He has had twelve pina coladas, run around the block 80 times, done some sunbathing, been to B&Q 4 times, and done the roof! No doubt he will update you this evening............:Laughing:

Sharon

Right it is done.
All you buggers that reckon you can do it in 2 hours..................................... Go away :Laughing:
Took ages to cut in all the edges and go over the old joint sealer to make it white again... Then the roller came in to play and first coat took about 2 hours to do ( I had to keep sweeping the detritus that constantly falls off the larch trees which surround our house
Then wait for an age for it to finally dry enough for me to go and apply the second coat. There are several bits of larch needles mixed into the paint (gives the finish a rustic look ) but it certainly looks a lot better than it did this morning....
Thanks for the messages (albeit somewhat dubious...) of support, I hope that I have done a good job and don't need to do it again.....

Keith

JC did that to my old Lexus when he decided to use the workshop compressor to spray paint the fence, pearlised white with brown overtones  Don't tell him I told you.....he'll kill me
