weights advice? (1 Viewer)

Hi Funsters,Need a clarification. The plate in the doorway of our M/H is as follows;

3850 KG
5550 KG
1850 KG
2120 KG
There are no other letters or any guide on these figures.

Max vehicle Weight of 3850kg
Train weight (with a trailer) of 5500kg
Front axle max of 1850kg
Rear axle max of 2120kg

bit strange there are no letters etc. you usually have the unladen weight, the max laden weight, and the then the front and rear axle weights, but non of those figures add together to correspond. some one else might come along and explain. edit....and they have done.

I think you'll find
3850 kg is your gross weight
5550 kg is your gross including trailer
The others are axle weights
Though I stand to be corrected

The two explanations are spot on and no they will not add up, the 3850 is a weight with everything and everyone in that you cannot legaly exceed, again fully loaded your rear axle must not exceed 2120Kg and similarly fully loaded your front axle may not exceed 1850 Kg the other figure is your maximum allowed weight with a trailer hooked up

Many thanks!!! Oh well, suppose that means a complete unload and some scales. Not so sure about Von and Dog tho. but then again something may have to be jettisoned. Thanks again.

Yep - find your local weighbridge and get both axles plus the overall weight. It will be the second best tenner you ever spent...... and may save a ticket/fine/un scheduled unloading

Sometimes best to get the van weighed as you would normally run it, then make adjustments. My local trading standards will weigh the van for free, they only charge if you want the printouts and certificates. You can use the loaded weight to get tyre pressures from your tyre manufacturer. As stated above, better to be safe.

a correction to Lanesides post.....

the two axle weights exceed the vehicles maximum weight to allow for uneven loading.

if one axle (front or rear) is loaded to the plated limit then the other axle can only be loaded to total the maximum vehicle weight.

ie: rear = 2120kg
front = 1730kg

or

front = 1850kg
rear = 2000kg

or any combination in between.

If you want to get your Motorhome weighed go to Whitworths just of the A45 , they do it for a good price, a few years ago it was £8 for 2 weights ( total and rear)

I have found most council places like tips (sorry recycling centres) don't charge unless you want a printout.
