Hi there,
I just joined now and maybe have to find my way around here :)
Maybe my question is already answered.
I have a motorhome (Rimor Katamarano 9) that is registered as 3.995t
(Exact same models are registered as 3.5t)
Now I am trying to downsize it but am very confused. After calling DVLA and DVSA I am none the wiser. I think I got as many answers as calls I made and none seemed to be helpful.
Has anybody downsized their motorhome and can assist me? Dont want to pay a £100,- daily fee for driving in Greater London.
Do I have to fill out the VTG10 and is that all? And is there a place where I can get help how to fill it out if that is what I have to do?

Thank you so much for all your help
Erich

Is it still useable as a motorhome at 3.5t ?? Would you have any payload left...

That should be fine. I checked on TFL in regards to LEZ with my numberplate and I have to pay £100,- but I played around with the number plate and found an identical motorhome that is registered as a 3.5t and doesn't have to pay those £100,- daily, according to the website.

Search for down rating threads.
I found this posted by lorger
“No need got engineers report when down rating all you need to do is inform DVLA, we did this selling our Adria as new owner didn’t have C1.”

Maybe silly question but where and how do I obtain an engineers report?

I just quoted the original post but now, re reading it, I think the meaning is “no need to get an engineer’s report” and there was a typo.
You would of course need to check that your van when loaded with people and gear and fuel etc does come in under 3500 and I would advise using a weighbridge.

You really do need to ensure it’s going to be legally useable at 3500kg before down plating do you know how much your van weighs when loaded with family and belongings for a trip as that will be the governing factor? It’s no good to you if you are 400kg overweight🤔

Reading my post back it doesn't really make sense, I think most of my posts are the same :)

When we sold our Adria the new owner didn't have the C1 so needed it downrated, I contacted DVLA and all I had to do was provide a ticket with the unladen weight on it. Once I done this the new owner just changed the weight when applying for the tax, this was 5 years ago so may have changed.

It may also depend on how old your vehicle is and whether or not it has the latest spec engine to meet the requirements of the LEZ.

Ok briliant. Will get a weigh bridge ticket and try this approach. Sounds easy and sensible but nothing like what DVLA said. Lets hope it works :)

I think the aim is to get the charge down to £12.50 instead of £100.
So the higher the E classification the better I think ours even at Euro6 incurs a charge not that I would want to go there🤔

Our Burstner Ixeo is 4.8 tons plated. When I put my reg into the government DVLA site it says, Fully compliant ULEZ, LEZ, and all cities with restrictions.

that is not the LEZ or the ULEZ but the congestion charge. Everyone has to pay that who wishes to enter. It would be in addition to any LEZ or ulez carge

congestion charge is only for a small area of central london and is payable by almost every vehicle

But it’s not much use to you if the van is not useable at that lower weight is it?🤔

Would you remember what exactly had to be done. Send the weigh bridge ticket with the V5 in and ask for the weight to be changed?

I'll hopefully find out today when I get it weighed. Should be fine though as it originally was 3.5t and the previous owner changed it.
Good luck and hope you have enough payload🤞🤞🤞😊

Our van was plated at 3850kg and Van Weight Engineering did the paperwork to get it downplated to 3500kg. They just needed a copy of the V5 and they then sent me some simple forms to fill out. It was straightforward and cost £120. If I wanted to re-plate it to 3850kg at some time in the future they could sort it at a reduced cost.

Yes exactly that we sent away the V5 with the new owners details and the weight details, it was then sent to the new owners from DVLA with the new weight of 3500kg.
