When we were down at Moffat I took the opportunity to weigh each corner of our Rapido A class with the Reichs portable scales I have. With myself, Elaine and Daisy the cocker, water tank was filled to brimming (120l in tank and 20l for boiler, pipework etc), 1/2 tank of diesel, 2 x 11kg Gaslow tanks were freshly filled prior to departure, fridge was loaded as were clothes, dog food, electrical goodies etc etc. As it was only 2 nights the only alcohol we took were 4 cans of lager, 4 cans of Cidre and 2 bottles of wine. The MoHo has fitted over standard, Fiamma awning, 2 x solar panels, extra 110Ah leisure battery, Cytrac satellite system, Gaslow and VB air assist suspension which probably add another 100kgs, then there is about another 100kgs of stuff in the garage, most of it just in case which is now going in the garage at home! So ran each wheel over the scales and here are the results:

F/N/S = 824 kg F/O/S = 971kgs Front axle total = 1795 kgs Plated weight = 1850kgs
R/N/S = 1023 kgs R/O/S = 1070 kgs Rear axle total = 2093kgs Plated weight = 2240kgs

Gross vehicle weight: 3888kgs Plated weight: 3850kgs Overweight by 38kgs

I done the weighing a second time and got the exact same results. Recently when I used a weighbridge the front and rear axle combined weights were near enough the same as the Reichs scales, + or - 10kgs so I am happy with the calibration.
Looks like I am going to have to keep an eye on the vehicle gross weight as the individual axle weights were within their individual plated weights.

I made that mistake for years. Improved things by getting the back axle limit upped by svtech.

The rear axle has been upgraded to 2240kgs and the gross vehicle weight from 3500kg to 3850kg. As it is the light chassis 3850kgs is the maximum GVW even though the uprated axle weights give a total of 4090kgs.

A Woosh bang
The sum of the axle weights does not equal the GVW .. or MAM

My Hymer has

4,000 kg GVW
1850 kg Front Axle
2300 kg Rear Axle

Sum of axle weights = 4150 kg ..

@scotjimland sorry....edit as I misread your post. I agree, the GVW is not necessarily the sum of the individual max axle weights.

The subject was that even though none of the axles were overloaded, the plated revenue weight was, by 38 kgs. (y)

Not on the light chassis, 3850kgs is the maximum I have been led to believe. To get the rear up rated to 2240kgs required the air assist and higher load rated tyres to be fitted.

nowhere near long enough
Yep we had a Rapido 791ff with a huge garage and even after up rating to 3850 I could only put 40Kg in the garage to keep back axle weight legal. If we were to have put a tow bar on the garage would have to have been left empty and the 40 Kg would probably have been exceeded by the tow bar weight. It does beg how many vans on the road are legal

Yup same as me light chassis mine is alko and I was told the same. Can upgrade further with AS and tyres. But not total plated. IMHO not worth it
