I packed my van up for Peterborough show.
It was very full with all my gear, 2 adults, 1 Parrot, 120 litres of Diesel, 1/4 tank of water, 30litres of Gas.

I had no idea what my weight would be, but guessed I would have around 200kg spare

So heres my results

Axle 1 design weight 2100kg Actual 1870kg Spare payload 230kg
Axle 2 design weight 2400kg Actual 2110kg Spare payload 290kg Total spare payload 520kg

I couldn't overload it if I tried

So whats your total limit on weight I don't think it will be the max on each axle added together or is it really 4500kg

My van has the same axle limits as yours but the Maximum Authorised Mass is only 4000kg if yours is the same you only have 20kg spare. What does the weight plate show?

Hi , can any one help me , I have a deffleths a class, it was up graded to 3850 kg. Do I need a weigh bridge certificate for the uk and Europe, also how does it work ? I.e. Front , middle, back or just total weight? Thanks in advance for any answers, it's a little confusing when reading different opinions.

You should have a plate as part of your upgrade that show permissible axle weights and total, you are not allowed to exceed any of these figures so if you don't know what it weighs it would be worth doing.

When I bought the Mh it was 4 years old, I found in the paperwork from the original sale from Lowdhams, it was up graded to 3850kg, I'm going to check the plate for these weights and then go to weighbrige to confirm. Thanks for your help. Danny

You don't need any "proof" of how much you currently weigh as this weight changes as you drive along and use fuel, use or top up with water etc. If someone needs to check your weight, they will be at a weighbridge, or escort you to one. To weigh individual axles you will need to drive onto the weighbridge with just front wheel on - if level, then both sets of wheels on for total weight. Subtract front from total to get rear weights.

What is your van, please? I am interested in vans with good payloads.
Globecar Campscout Revolution
But many panel can conversions on the Fiat Maxi chassis should be upgradeable to 4500kg.
I could have the rear axle upgraded higher if I changed the tyres.

I'm in the process of uprating mine from 3500kg to 4500kg maximum weight and the rear axle from 2400kg to 2600kg as the tyres are already at the correct load rating to enable that.

It is unusual for the Max Permissible weight to be the same as the two axle weights added together.
Geoff, it's probably even more unusual for the combined axle weights to exceed the maximum weight, but that's where I'm aiming :D

I'm in the process of assessing an upgrade. I have been told that the simplest method to go from 3500kg to 3850kg is by the "summation method" which I assume would be adding the two max axle weights together (not confirmed). This is by an established consultant. This is with no modifications and tyre load rating 108 and above. (my axle weights are 1850 and 2000).

Did you get the weight of both axles on the wseighbridge?

I had mine weighed recently and whilst I had quite a bit of spare capacity on each individual axle (Front axle had 120kg spoare, and rear axle had 100Kg spare, the total weight of the van when weighed had only 50Kg spare compared to the plate..

On and off for many years.
We drive onto the weighbridge to get the total weight, then drive the front wheels off for the rear axle. It cost us £9 last time and we had 90kg left (both axles well within weight) - which doesn't sound much but with two big adults, ebikes, kayaks, all the gear to go with bikes and kayaks plus enough "just in case" food, water, fuel, gas etc etc etc I was pleased we weren't over the limit!!!!

The garage weights always need to be checked as the maximum load on the alco extension is 150kg. We have a speadsheet with all the weights of the useful stuff we carry so we make sure it isn't overloaded.

It does vary, many vans are plated well under their maximum i.e. the fiat maxi chassis is regularly plated at 3500kg but can go up to 4500kg with no physical alterations. So the axle weights would be the same just the GVW will differ.

VERY, VERY, unusual the gross is normally given as less with a possibility to spread the load. out.

Gives a bit more flexibility on maximum vs distributed load. Best of both worlds.

On the contrary that situation is the norm.
Far from it, that is the norm, to allow you to be able to move loads about and still be OK. My rear axle is 2500, my front axle is 2300 and my total is 4500.
Yup, I was having a blond moment and worked it backwards, which I realised after @matamoros kindly said the same yesterday :D

Thanks - the Campscout is one I've been taking an interest in recently.
Be aware that the standard Campscout is generally plated with a revenue weight of 3500kg. It is a paper exercise to uprate a certain amount, but if you wanted to get all the way up to 4500kg, the standard (non-Revolution) might need some physical uprating too. I can't remember the exact details off the top of my head, but @Minxy Girl probably knows.

If you have a Maxi standard chassis it will be the one classed as 'light' so can from memory only go up to 3850 max, if that, the Maxi heavy chassis however can normally go up to 4250kg without any modifications. One way to tell is that if it only has 15" wheels it is more than likely the light chassis.
