Can I collect my Motorhome from storage to go to the weigh bridge, storage is 22mls from home,?

How far is storage from weigh bridge?

To be honest I wouldn't have thought it would fit in the rules.

Perhaps when things change? April?

When you've weighed it where you going to take it? .... Still under lockdown so it's not essential that it's weighed right now

From the government website:

Leaving home

You must not leave, or be outside of your home except where necessary. You may leave the home to:

  • shop for basic necessities, for you or a vulnerable person
  • go to work, or provide voluntary or charitable services, if you cannot reasonably do so from home
  • exercise with your household (or support bubble) or one other person (in which case you should stay 2m apart). Exercise should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area.
  • meet your support bubble or childcare bubble where necessary, but only if you are legally permitted to form one
  • seek medical assistance or avoid injury, illness or risk of harm (including domestic abuse)
  • attend education or childcare - for those eligible
If you do leave home for a permitted reason, you should always stay in your local area - unless it is necessary to go further, for example to go to work.

Staying in your local area means stay in the village, town, or part of the city where you live.

If you are clinically extremely vulnerable you are advised to only go out for medical appointments, exercise or if it is essential. We recommend that you do not attend work

I recently went through this debate as I wanted to take my van for a service in readiness for going away when we are allowed out to play.

The police wouldn’t answer my question...they told me to ask the garage!! The garage said they werent giving customers any information or advice on the subject.

I askied on here........ most Funsters said no go.

I asked my MP. His caseworker replied..... No,unless it is essential, which is very unlikely. Given that we cannot actually use the Moho it would obviously have been non essential......but I was clutching at straws!

It's deeply frustrating, isn't it?

I've been guilty of taking the van to my mechanic 3 or 4 miles away to town to be repaired. Not sure I'd go 20 odd miles each way though.

Not sure going to my mechanic is strictly essential. But I do need it ready for when I go semi full time for university, but that's in September. Also guilty of trips to B&Q for wood to build the conversion.

I went and got my Grandad compost the other day. Essential? Not sure. He's growing food if that helps. But I'd rather get it myself because if I didn't he would get it himself (along with the carpark full of others buying "essentials" at the legally open and trading garden centre) and put himself at risk.

That's a point. Is it open for public or just pro drivers? Perhaps ask.

The rules say no. But most people "flex" them I guess. Who here can say they haven't broken a single rule? It's about personal responsibility, personal conscience and the impact of fines and getting caught I guess.

Yes,very!
I would have taken the risk if the garage was just round the corner, but it’s 35 miles away.

Surely the weight 'now' is the maximum it can be as on the V5?

I recently up-plated my motorhome without having to weigh it, though I have heard of them asking for weights before down-plating. I found all the details needed from the Certificates of Conformity.

Absolutely. The actual weight it is, that's irrelevant. Surely they just need a photo of the VIN plate.

Next question. Is it OK to go and look at the plate in my motorhome that is in storage?

If you have gas fitted then there is an argument to have as to the safety of that gas supply, I would suggest that if the van is going for this to be checked as well then it could be deemed as ‘essential’ you don’t want your fan blowing up.

Fairly sure a copper would ask why you need to go to a supermarket 20-30 miles from home.

Try living in the real world CamperJack. Our local supermarket is 22miles away!!!!

You'd get away from it then.

But I bet the vast majority live closer than 20 miles from a supermarket I'm sure. Even people like me who live in villages. You must be in a tiny minority being so far from one.

Yes indeed a vast majority do BUT you try telling the rest of us up here who are the other majority that dont...I too live in a small village and my nearest SMALL supermarket is 22miles away... if I want a so called hypermarket supermarket then that is 50 plus miles away.
Don't paint people you don't know with the same brush as you.... how far away is your local AandE. ???????

So after advising that it would not be classed as essential and copying and pasting government rules, you then admit to openly breaking/bending the rules yourself. Bit of a double standard here I think.
I have not broken any lockdown rules and suspect that most others haven't too. I desperately miss my children and grandchildren but firmly believe that the quickest way out of this is to follow the guidance. At the end of the day it is for people to make their own minds up.
