Scheduled to be off to my second favourite child's birthday party today, load MH up with all the kit we need to take, benches, EZ-UP, lights, heating etc.. did that last weekend, and fired the old girl up , seeing as she hadnt moved for six weeks, and she goes first spin.

This morning, it appears that we will just be exercising the the starter motor, spins over for fun but doesn't go , fuel filter appears to be loose (again) but even with that tightened , its still doesnt go , as battery now not cranking enough to let fuel system work.

So i decide it might be a good time to buy a booster pack, but Halfords, bless em dont actually keep any of the decent ones in stock, they are 'internet only'.. so i cant get one.

On the bright side, i have a fridge full of beer , so it isnt all bad.

Second favourite child's birthday party - did you mean you were going to a second birthday party. I would hate to be referred to as 'second favourite child' by my parents.

Thats puzzling, lets hope its a simple remedy to get going , keep us

Machine Mart always keep large selection of Booster packs,

Gor it going after pushing it out into the street so we could get a proper jump off a running car.. went instantly. Will look at sorting a set of remote terminals so i can actually get it to jump.

You're luckier than me! :xsmile:

I went out to have a little run yesterday and found the starter battery was at 6V, despite being "permanently" on a smart charger. :xeek:

It took me 30mins to get the clamps off the battery, as access is quite difficult, but the nuts holding it in place will not budge.

Even if I free it, I don't know how I'm going to get it out over the top of the pipework, especially as it must weigh over 20kg and I'm stretching into the recesses of the bonnet. xroll:

The good news is that it lasted 16y. :xblink:

I had that last year , proper hard work. I hate A classes with a passion, but for the few issues we had, i wouldnt go back to cabbed MH though.

I would recommend some remote terminals though , just inside the bonnet. I was going to get some, but there is a positive battery Security cut off that i can get a set of leads on dead easy, which i didnt twig until yesterday.

The fuel filter issue is a not a new thing, had it last year , and changed the filter , which thought had put it to bed, but apparently not. You have to pull the air filter top housing off, and pull the filter to allow access, and the filter is on the bulkhead and its a stretch , but you can get to it just. i reckon it went up 1/8th of a turn, which is a lot, really , last trip was Belgium and back, and it was fine.

It does seem like the 2.8JTD is very susceptible to low cranking with the newer motor, my old Iveco Turbo Daily would go as lon as you could crank it long enough. This one seems that it needs everything right off the bat, it either goes in 3 seconds , or it doesnt go.

After 3h of effort by me and my son, we managed to get one nut off the clamp holding the battery into its tray. The other was rusted solid and no amount of WD40, various spanners/sockets nor a cold chisel nor a Dremmel disc were getting us anywhere :(.

Today, Sunday, I phoned Nationwide breakdown insurance ("free" via my FlexPlus Account) who put me through to their rescue service and was told an agent would be with me within 90mins.

I zoomed into Halfords, bought a replacement battery (Yuasa 019, £132) and the guy arrived at 2pm. His "rounded off" socket set removed the offending nut, he squeezed the old battery out of a space which left appox 2mm of clearance [he did consider removing the whole of the front panel, which he said would be fairly straightforward  ], squeezed the fractionally larger replacement in ["gravity helps"] and re-assembled the electrics by 2.30pm

Full marks to Tears Recovery from King's Lynn and Nationwide FlexPlus - Gordon :xThumb:
