LOL This is getting out of hand. John has said that they have experience of the problem in their van.

It is nothing to do with the Webasto, but, it would seem the incorrect gauge of wire used originally.

It doesn't need to carry 170 amps nor 100amps from memory when we install them the main fuse is rated at 15 amps

So if a replacement cable is to be used, wired direct from the battery any sized cable that would deliver say 25 amps at the Webasto fuse holder, when distance etc is taken into account.

I chucked in some 6mm I had laying about for the 3m run required.

If it's off a 15A fuse then 2.5mmsq or 32/0.2mm stranded would do the job fine, if you still think it's too low an ampage double the cables. You've only got a few metres run so the voltsdrop is miniscule.

Tim, a cable as thick as someones little finger would be about 25mmsq, which could easily carry the power to your house !! It's also pretty expensive and impossible to crimp without special tools.


Sure you are right, it was just I spoke to Mr Sterling from Sterling power supplies and that is what he quoted to me, so connected up my battery to battery charger using 25mm2 cable and just used it for the other bits and bobs as I was confident it would do the job. I figured better safe than sorry - though I haven't tried carrying the power to my house yet!

You won't need any larger than 8.5sq mm. That will cope with 15A over a 5m run. If your circuit is less than 3m long a 4.0 sq mm cable will do. Termination would be an issue with larger cables; ok if you have the equipment.

Would this battery be suitable? I can get a USED one for £60 as opposed to £200 new.

Think this question was missed. Please can someone
tell me if this battery would be ok as a replacement or a back up. The existing battery says 85. The seller is waiting on me picking it up but I'm just waiting on you guys to say if it would be any good or not.

I am getting the wiring redone on Friday hopefully.

Yes! US battery are a good manufacturer. You could have got the equivalent Dyno battery from justcarbatteries.co.UK for £70 less though!
However, make sure when you fit it, it is an area where it is adequately vented to remove the possibility of hydrogen gas build up!

It will be too tall to go under your passenger seat I reckon!

I was thinking it would go under the single seat in beside the fuse box and the battery charger. Do I need to just use one or could I still have it linked up to existing battery which reads 850 not 85 as I previously said. As you can all gather I don't know much but the battery I'm planning on buying today says 135.

It is best practice to have all batteries linked in parallel to be of equal capacity.
In practice, it matters not!

Link your batteries together, it will be just fine!:thumb:

as a general rule, second hand batteries are not worth buying. theres no warranty and you cant know how well the battery has been treated. this is what I would recommend and at £67.50 with a 4 year warranty is better value for a 110ah and delivered to your home next day too

Problem remains

Thought our problem was solved but its still there. We have readings of 11.76 at battery and at heater and its still coming up with low voltage. We were watching the meter and never saw any drop in readings before the error code kicked in. I thought I read somewhere the voltage had to be higher than 10 for webasto to work.

Please can someone advise.

You have a poor connection or your wiring to the heater is too thin causing a voltage drop under load.
The fault in this case will only occur when the glowplug is being operated, drawing maximum current.
Get the supply to the heater upgraded or repaired and your problem will go away.

I rewired my Dualtop supply on our Chausson due to low voltage faults. There has been no failure since.

11.76v without load indicates your battery has had it. It should read 12.4 -12.8v without load.
