We have been using the same route for years. Rouen, Evreux,Chartres, Poitier so tomorrow we are having a change.
We need to be south of Poitiers by Thursday, I was thinking of Montrieul tomorrow night, depending on time and tunnel. Then to La Mailleraye, its from here on that I am not sure. It's years since we went around Le Mans, we would be aiming for Saumur, then Niort, or Tours and Poitiers.
Anyone any thoughts of a reasonable route without Autoroutes. I am ok from Tours or Saumur heading South.
After driving for a living for 40 years I like to have an idea of where I am aiming for. My navigator is rubbish, by the time he has woken up and found a map, glasses, and correct page, I am ready to sign divorce papers. Casper has more idea of where we are than himself has.

Why not go completely left field and you can still do Montruiel on your first night but then head South towards Paris and the peripherique.
I have done it once and it is no worst than the M25. You can stop at off at Fontainebleu or Milly la Foret and head for Sully su la loire before getting back on to your route. Its about 80 miles further but like you say it is different.

Another good reason for trying this is i need a guinea pig !

I used to use the Paris route but a couple of years ago, heading for Orleans, got routed to a low tunnel. After diverting at the last minute we tried again now heading for Chartres and only missed the tunnel again at the last second. I was using TomTom at the time that did not 'know' my height.

@Casper46, we use this route quite often from La Mailleraye.

After leaving the aire go up through the village to the main road then straight over the roundabout on to the D131 through the forrest- through Bourneville- join the D89, then D130 to Brionne.
At Brionne take D438- past Bernay, Gacé, Sees to Alencon.
By-pass round Le Mans then D323 to La Flèche, Bauge, Saumur.

There is a riverside aire at Saumur (credit card required) or go a little further to Montreuil-Bellay for a quiet night stop. Montreuil always used to be a free stop but the aire has been moved a few yards and is brand new. There will be credit card barriers there soon but 6 weeks ago it was still free.
If you go to Montreuil-Bellay take care as some of the roads are very narrow and steep. There is a video on my YouTube channel which you can find on the link below this post.

I still have nightmares from towing a caravan round the Periphique over 30 years ago. :Eeek::Eeek:

Could be this one here.
That's the one, thanks.

You should follow the route from the video and not what the sat nav might try to send you.
The new aire is a hundred yards or so before you get to the old one in the video.
We stop there quite often and have watched otters hunting for their supper in the river. It's a nice place for a stopover.

Clarky I would take a look at a video for my own use next month, buy no link?
I think you must have 'signatures' (or something similar) turned off on your preferences.
The link to my channel is Motorhome Moments.
