Another smashing FLT spot. These pictures were taken last year and we are here again. Not took the camera out on this stopover.

Although this has been raised before, I thought I would add some clarity to the beach parking areas around Aguilas.According to Maps.me which appears to be supported by signage in the local area, the region of Murcia ends and the region of Andulucia begins in the lower car park next to playa Carolina. We are currently wilding on the next beach further south which is visited by the national police who take no action against motorhomes parked here and on other beaches further south. The signage on the beaches north of us is clear and I attach for your information. They all currently have motorhomes on them but none in double figures.

I drove the coast road south of Aguilas all the way to the start of the Cabo de Gato. There are lots of built up resorts but also lots of wilding places with mohos in.

However we did not stop for 2 reasons. Firstly it was blowing a hooley off the sea and we didn't fancy a second night of that. And secondly because most of the places I noticed seemed a bit remote from anywhere. Nowt but scenery. I suspect some of the resorts didn't want motorhomes so made sure there were no easy stopping places.

We will visit again though and hope the weather is better so we can stay for a few days.

I'm sure this is what many would regard as just what there looking for. Since sending the previous message we have been surrounded on all sides by several motorhomes ???????

I just knew this spot we choose would soon attract others ! Not to worry! Today Busman Dave and Maggie move south and I'm staying for one more day to get some beach fishing in. We will meet up again tomorrow before heading into the national park areas.

We had a thunderstorm and heavy rain last night at El Rocio. The problem is that it leaves the site roads in a bit of a mess.
20180421_094323.jpg

This is the main road out of the site. You can even see my footprints where I walked across the road.

Heavy rain was forecast for today so we decided to leave. We drove through it while heading west.

We have now at last got to Portugal. Stopping on the Aire by the beach at Armacao de Pera. I am afraid that we are not quite FLTs because this is costing the princely sum of 2€ a nigjt including water and dump!
20180421_134801.jpg

Weather is nice and sunny but with a brisk wind.

We had a walk along the sea front which was very pleasant
20180421_152117.jpg

Not sure if we are staying or going tomorrow.

You must visit the all you can eat fish bar. Get there early, they don't take bookings and are rammed every day. Go hungry too. On a side street not far from the front. Easy to find.

You recommended that place when we were with you in Armacao to Pera a few years ago. Never got to try it then but have just done so now.

It opened at noon but the recommendation was to be there by 11:45 so we were. Got a seat inside (was a bit windy outside) but all the inside seats were taken by 12:15 and the outside ones by 12:30.so very popular and I can see why.

Only one option on the menu and that is all you can eat seafood. All simply prepared and cooked on hhe grill. We got offered bass, halibut, salmon, baby squid and sardines. Comes with a salad and potatoes. They just keep bringing it out and you say yes or no. Stay and eat as long and as much as you want.

Good value. We paid a total of 33€ for the two of us including half litre of wine and one dessert.

I did read about that happening once but most of the rest of the reviews were OK. At the moment everybody here is being good with nothing out that could suggest camping rather than parking. We will keep our fingers crossed.

I have just upset a German.

This is a big car park and there is plenty of space for everyone. Despite that he pulled up and was going to leave about 4ft between us. I explained to him that there was plenty of space and he could move a bit further away and leave a bit more space. So he started his engine and drove away to park 4ft from somebody else. It must be some sort of hearding instinct.

Ah well .......... you can't please everybody can you.

Sounds like the same distance between motorhomes in many a camp site. Oddly enough we moved onto an Aire today for maintenance that was more or less empty. Within half an hour a French couple drove in and parked within two feet of Busman Dave. We were just about ready to get our mankini's on and get the Dylan music on at full blast when he decided to move to one of the other 20 or so odd places that were free. It was ridiculas,Dave could'nt even open his door to take a piss. Some people have no respect for other people's space. Knobs! With a capital K.

Oh well glad you lot Are having fun. We had a great time at P/boro. The weather was really great . We had a great time. My good wife spent Just over £1250 on some new cushions and curtains. So not a cheap weekend . But better than buying a new M/ home.

We have now started heading North for home.

Today we did not get too far. Back east to Castro Marin and then north to Mertola where we stopped for a break. Lovely little town in a nice setting with a castle and church.
20180423_134814.jpg

Unfortunately both were closed on Mondays so could only look at them from the outside.

Mertola has 2 Aires. We parked at the one opposite the fire station but this one by the river looked better
20180423_134805.jpg

It was a bit early to stop for the night so we moved on.

Now stopped at a small municipal campsite in another nice little historical Portuguese town called Serpa. Only 10€ including electrics. Went and explored the old town but again the castle was closed on Mondays.

Will be moving on again tomorrow. At the moment we think we will cross back into Spain at Elvas and then head for Madrid and Zaragoza before heading for the Somport tunnel. We have never done that route before.

Can anybody offer any advice on how to get round Madrid easily please. We don't want a repeat of what happened a week ago in Seville.

We went round Madrid on the East side last year on a Sunday morning and were pleasantly surprised at how quiet and easy it was. I think the ring road is further out than Seville. Good luck.

Going that way well worth taking in Avila & Segovia and that will make you miss Madrid. You can overnight in the bus parking outside the city wall on the north side of Avila or there is an Aire by the bull ring in Segovia my choice would be Avila for an overnight stop.

Well ! what a fantastic 3 days we (Busman Dave, Maggie, Mena and I) have just had and it's still ongoing. Probably the finest scenery I have ever seen in Spain with many jaw dropping places not photographed because we could not stop and a small detour made by me which took us of one of the most scenic stretches along the A348 along the Sierra Nevada national park followed by a little gem of a place just north of Malaga with wild Vultures. Just a few of the many, many, pictures I took. We are now on the Aire at Antequera, it's 33. degrees, and the thunder has just started. More adventures tomorrow.
