Over the last few months we have been picking funsters minds of which was the best replacement van suitable for our needs. We thought we would like to down size from our Hymer 7.40 in length to a PVC. Many of you offered quite good advice on the wrongs and rights of a PVC. We looked at Rapido V68, Dreamer, Adria Twin and few others. We ordered a Twin which we liked BUT had not seen in the flesh. Managed to see a Twin and realised that a PVC was not for us so cancelled and received our deposit back.
I reckon we looked at dozens of dealers in the South and Midlands saw one we liked in a dealers in the Midlands , but were put off by “cocky” salesman “take it or leave it “ attitude, his attitude was some one else’s gain!. Then we visited a dealer we had never heard of in Hampshire called Harbour Creek. They could have not more helpful , no pushie salesman left to our own to look and ask questions which were answered correctly. What did we end up with.? We are at an age when we don’t need a lot in our life so we bit the bullet VERY VERY HARD and bought a Carthago Malibou coach built 6.99 in length and had everything we need , twin beds, massive garage , double floor and loads of storage and most important EXCELLENT quality.

Lots of vans have on the back “ spending the kids inheritance ”. we will putting on the back of the van “not spending the kids inheritance we’ve spent all on this van”. Van is in stock but been held up with the slow DVLA.

Thanks everybody for their advice etc.

Sorry no pics at moment, but if you want look at on the Harbour Creek website. Model is Carthago Malibou T 430LE. It’s the one their site that says sold. If only DVLA would hurry up we can then go to the Thetford Bash. Any one want our tickets?

Looks a lovely van with great spec - assume it's this one:

Must have cost a few bob. Guessing not much change from £85k (excluding part-ex)?

Glad to hear you received good service from the dealer - worth a lot these days.

Hope you don't have to wait too long for DVLA to get their act together. (y)

You've been short-changed by 9cm. The Malibu you've flagged up is only 690cm long !!!

Pity they don't do that model on a heavier chassis. Just make sure you only fill that massive garage with air....then you should be OK :p

They do it on the heavier chassis, we have ordered the T500 from Simon at Alan Kerr Paignton

Don’t talk to me about dvla. We imported a new van before Christmas 2020. We have just received our V5C as of 2 days ago. Just over 5 months to do the three stages involved. Abysmal is the only word I have for them. Sorry it’s a negative but, you need to be prepared for their incompetence. They will readily blame covid, I don’t wear that. Nice looking van, enjoy it to the full.👍

Very nice van colyboy and glad you have found something that ticks all your boxes...something that we are struggling with hugely at the moment! Fingers crossed all the paperwork gets done soon to get you out and about in your new toy!

You will love the 9 speed automatic gearbox. Ours is just a dream to drive. Just returned from 4 weeks in Scotland - loved every minute of the drive.

Nice van. Enjoy it. 👍🥃😷

Great van, you will love it. We have had our Malibu I500 for nearly two years and it’s been sound so far

Nice van we nearly bought the same last year but opted for the Knaus although for us this was a close second, the main thing for us was the model in stock couldn’t be up plated.

Lovely van, the same layout we have, but much much newer/nicer than ours. Works well for us, and would not want to change from this layout

Very Nice

But its not 9G-Tronic 9G-Tronic is Mercedes-Benz's trademark name for its nine-speed automatic transmission.

Its a ZF Gearbox
