Having just bought a campervan after having a caravan for a number of years the onboard watertanks are small so we going to increase the size of the tanks. The boss then asked where can we fill them? We are due to tour the highlands for two weeks and dont want to rely on campsite stopovers each night is there something I'm missing as I don't want to have to buy 4x 5lt bottles of water from the supermarket each day.

Be aware every extra litre of water is approx 1kg in weight. So check your payload and max weights. Could be a reason why you have a small tank. Or it could just be down to physical size of areas where they could place a tank.

Better to find ways of using less water than adding more, in fact some folks travel with no water even if they have the capacity, just to keep the weight down.

We are going to weigh bridge this week to check what payload we have. The onboard tank holds 15lt before the overflow starts running. For whatever reason the company that did the conversion put the overflow a third of the way down the tank. Will post image to show.

It takes 14 lt or two watering cans before it hits the max line shown in image.

Well you are kinda stuck without modifying the van to take a bigger tank. Looks like you could definitely double the capacity in that space with a shelf and a different tank.
Failing that you could buy a filtration kit to suck up water from streams but it's not a quick process.

Hard to see how that tank is secured but it looks dodgy to me ours sits on the floor in a steel surround that forms the rear seat base.

That looks ridiculous that strap will never hold in prang probably not even with an emergency stop.
I thought our last van had a small tank only 100lt, I used to carry 2 X 20 Lt containers as well.
Two wouldn't even get a morning shower with 15lt.
In Scotland most garages will let you fill up with water, just ask before putting any fuel in, if not go on to next one.

Fresh tanks I've had have always been 100L+.
Cant understand why anyone would put in such a titchy tank even our grey tank is 75L.
I had a brand new CAK tanks 50L tank in my garage for ages but swmbo finally made me get rid of it.

It was convered by cheshire motorhomes conversion and a check of companies house shows them as dissolved. Getting quotes to have underslung fitted, but the tank is just held in place with a single strap. Getting the van weighed this afternoon to make sure the exact permissible payload. Hoping to go to harris and lewis the first two weeks in september so need enough volume to last a couple of days and hopefully find somewhere to fill up with water.

Back from the weighbridge and smiling. GVW should be max 3,500 weighed in at 2,860. Front axle max 1,850 weighed 1,520 rear axle max 2,000 weighed1, 340. Overall 640 to cover 2 passengers adding minus 45 kgs for half full tank fuel, gas tank was full and toilet flush minus 7kgs (based on 1 lt = 1kg) that leaves 400 kg for new watertanks camera gear clothes and food. Now to find someone in north east that has space to do work in next 2 weeks.

Thanks again all for your help and knowledge
