Hi, I have an exposed 12v connection in my engine bay. I noted the old circuitry box had a soft but not runny gel / jelly that the circuit board was buried in. What is an easily available equivalent before road debris and dust attack my new little electrical connection? I don't want anything that sets really hard in cae I have to go back in and make a better solder/connection to a very short exposed wire. Thanks!

I used to use silicone grease on the HT side of my Mini and motorbike, would run with a hosepipe over the distributor and plugs(y)

It sounds like a soft "potting" compound, maybe some form of silicon ? It's used to encapsulate the circuit board to make it waterproof. You can get potting compound from RS components.

I can second the silicon grease. Works well at repelling moisture and never sets.

Difficult to get picture. But here goes. That's what lurks under the immobiliser PCB. My temporary chock.block fix but so little wire pokes through that it is hard to solder.

Raychem Magic gel, it is a 2 part gel that you mix and pour. It is very commonly used in exterior electrical joints.

TLC direct sell it too.

I'll second Raychem Magic gel, I've used it on numerous electrical connections in the garden, and have used it to seal some external connection on the MH when I had to cut existing cables underneath. Ideally you want to put the connection in a sealed/sealable connection box, seal off any gaps and then simply pour the gel in, sets in about 30/40 mins and you can easily peel it apart if you need to get to the connections in the future. To date 100% effective at keeping the joins waterproof.

How about a dollop of ordinary bathroom silicon sealant? I have used it a few times on my Harley to stop things rattling off. It works a treat for that. I have used it in the past to waterproof loads of things too.

You can easily just peel it off when you want to.

Thanks for the suggestions. settled on a smear of silicon gel directly and then buried the lot in black gasket compound that will set and be rubbery by morning.

Be careful doing this, some silicon sealants can rot electrical circuit tracks or joints.
