Good morning funsters

Those of you who regularly use your vans and are away every couple of weeks or so for a weekend during this time of year, when there is no threat of frost.

Do you fully empty and drain down the whole fresh water system or just empty the tank and leave the pipes and heater full.

Thanks
Graham

No, I leave the fresh in place as there’s no need to drain it down, there’ll be lots of threads about this when the winters here.

If you have a good clean/descale policy on your fresh, it’ll be fine to leave it where it is. I usually let mine run down somewhat before I park up and simply top up again before I set off.

There are some good products you can pop into the fresh to keep it clean and bug free. Some use them, some don’t and depends on whether you drink straight from the fresh tank. Again some do, some don’t.

I‘ve used this in the past, but not one tablet per 25ltrs or the water smells chlorinated. Just pop em into the fresh tank.

Great thanks PP Bear.
How many tablets would you use for say a 100 litres tank and do you put in every fill or just on the first fill of a trip ?

I’d put 3 max, or try 2 and taste it, as you can always pop another one in.

I use them occasionally, so first fill of a trip, defo not every fill, just when you think it’s right. Reminds me that I probably haven’t put them in my own fresh for a few months, so will on the next fill.

Thanks. Will try some.

I have had an online filter out in to the kitchen tap cold water feed for drinking.

Was planning on running down the tank but not completely and leaving the system primed. Obviously when there is a risk of freezing weather will fully drain down everything.

Appreciate the advice 👍👍

If you ever want to descale the fresh system, there’s loads of threads covering this and all different methods too.

We always drain down after every trip.

May I ask why, are you just occasional users of the van.

Seems a complete waste of water, especially in these current times.

Our usage varies between regular trips in a short period, to infrequent trips, to long duration trips.

If we drain down every time we don’t have to fret about frost, or about the water going stale. On a couple of occasions when we haven’t drained down, the water has had a sour taste. Consequently, we simply drain down every time and fill with fresh water prior to departing home.

If there are concerns about water shortages, we’ll use the water being drained to water the garden.

I drain down every time the vans not in use and when I refill I just run the taps for a bit (that's on the tanks and the taps)

Normally only winter drain down but in view of recent temperatures and having sat there for a month, I drained the remaining 25% of my tank and used it on the garden.
