Van gone in for cam belt at local normally very good garage. Mechanic can't get diesel pump pulley off which needs to bo removed to swap water pump. Pump spins freely and there is no sign of a leak. Do I tell him just to fit belt and hope for the best?

Are you planning on keeping the van? If so are you happy that the water pump will last another five years till the next cambelt change. Personally I would change it, as I did on our last van, even though I knew I would be selling it. After fitting a new belt and tensioner, it tends to put extra load on the pump, which is why they fail just after a belt change.

Well had to make a decision on a Friday afternoon. Wasn't expecting a new water pump so just got belt fitted. Time will tell if it was right or not. At least I always carry water in the van so able to top up if there is a leak :giggle:
