Hi guys
Every 5 minutes Shurflo water pump is activated/making a noise that lasts for only a second or two. Quite annoying! Is it a pump fault, leak or tap switch problem?
Any ideas gratefully received
Thanks
Paul

Do you have a pressure operated pump? If so it's possible there may be a small leak, if not then I would advise fitting a non return valve

As others have said it is down to pressure loss.
Only causes for this are a leak or non return valve not sealing.
Having had a pump failure when touring Spain I always carry a spare.
If you cannot physically see a leak anywhere I would change the pump and see if the problem persists.
If it does you have a spare pump and further investigation needed.

Definitely a leak. Check all joints for moisture,I use a piece of kitchen roll tissue to wipe each joint.
Check also the base of the taps where the flexi pipes screw in.

Had the same with a Whale system last week. Turned out the winter dump valve to the hot water tank had been knocked and opened slightly and we were loosing just a little water through that. Opened and closed again sorted it. Something else to check.

When that happened with my pump, I discovered that the screw-in inlet filter needed tightening slightly..

Check all your jubilee clips where you can for small leaks and nip them up, they can work loose over time.

cHECK PUMP filter cap for a crack. This will cause fine pressure leak and causes pump to come on for short period.

Thanks everyone, checked connections whilst on site and all seem ok. Further investigation needed when home tomorrow.

We had same with our previous Concorde Charisma. Eventual ly a damp patch on the floor meant the removing of a panel to reveal the anti surge damper, a vessel full of air. Bur now full of water which had a minute pin hole through which a fine mist was spraying. Just replaced it. Sorted.

If you have checked for leaks, make sure the pump is not weeping, you could hardly notice it, I had this problem and had to replace it.
Also check dump valve as that could leak and you won't see it from inside.

Exactly the Robles I had. Sorted now

Hi camel I had a problem with my water pump activating at regular intervals too (actually it was my first trip with it). I subsequently was advised that it 'might' be caused by an air lock. With pump on to open all taps and run until water running smoothly, turn off taps. Leave pump in 'on' position and refill water tank..... I've not had a problem since.

Hope you find the cause of your water pump activation, because yes it a noisy irritant ! :D

Not so. Mine was due to pressure drop due to a faulty non return valve. Replaced it - no problems for 4 years.

Mine comes on for a second or two, every 3 or for days...
Not going to worry about it (yet).

Happened to me on my first outing this year. I knew something wasn't right so looked at the pump and a small leak had started from one of the joints on the outward branch. It was a push fit T-piece. I released it - cleaned it, put it back but still leaked. Luckily a caravan parts dealer was nearby so hopped on the pushbike with T-piece in hand to make sure I got the identical match. Back to the Moho and Bob's your auntie. No more leak...Phew! I'm guessing the nightly frosts through April had perhaps damaged the seal somehow on the leaking T-piece. Even though the system had been drained for the winter, some water can remain at critical areas.....apparently.

If the pump is running every 5 minutes I'd say that is a considerable leak and should be obvious somewhere unless it's a valve (frost or dump) leaking and it's dumping it outside under the van. Any puddles?

Ever thought it might have something to do with the levelling of the van.
Mine occasionally did it if we weren’t dead true level as any possible trapped airl made its way through the system.
Just a thought to add to the many other possibilities before undertaking major pump refit work.
😊

We had exactly the same problem and was solved by replacing the pump.
Hopefully in your case it's simply the same - but you do need to thoroughly check for leaks anyway. If none found, replace the pump. While you're about it, install an accumulator. We did both recently and new pump is much quieter - no more problems.

Could also be the pressure release valve needs replacing.

The pressure release valve at the inlet to the Truma boiler can create a loss of pressure which then triggers the pump.

The pressure release valve incorporates a non return valve (NRV). If the NRV fails, water will be seen dripping from the clear plastic pipe which terminates below the floor of the van.

Here is a pic of the pressure release valve:
